CIRCLE OF LIFE WOMEN’S WELLNESS by Sandra Hahn So many women are caretakers for others, leaving their own health needs for tomorrow. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This is a good time for women to make sure they have had their wellness check this year. Breast cancer is a growing problem in this country for all women. Native women have had lower survival rates o f breast cancer. We need to change that by letting women know how important it is to get their screenings! You can’t prevent breast cancer but you can find it early with regular breast cancer screening. Breast cancer screening has three parts: -Breast self-exam -Breast exam by your health care provider (once a year after age 18). -Mammogram (starting around age 35-40) join together to learn more about women’s health. Speakers include Ruth Jensen and Donna Standing Rock from the Northwest Indian Health Board., as well as Ellen Potter, Nurse Practitioner from the Siletz Clinic. Notice to all A&D clients DUII and Outpatient: Beginning September 1 ,1998, all payments for A lcohol and D rug treatm ent services including DUII Treatment are to be mailed or given directly to Patient Accounts located at the Clinic. Acceptable methods o f payment include: personal checks, money orders and cash (note - cash payments are to be paid directly to patient accounts and should not be sent through the mail)! The A&D Counselor w ill not be collecting paym ent for A&D services! Please make the checks or money orders out to The Siletz Community Health Clinic - A&D. On the reference line, please note i f th e check or m oney order is for diversion and/or if it is for someone other than whose name is on the check! Pap tests are a test to check for abnormal changes to the cells o f the cervix. When found early, cervical cancer is easier to treat. Whenever possible Third Party resources will be billed for A&D services. Whatever amount billed and not covered by third party resources will be the responsibility o f the client. The assessment will identify and address issues and concerns relating to forestry activities. A t this time, w e are requesting input on any concerns or issues th a t y o u w o u ld lik e a d d ressed in th e Environmental Assessment which relates to the management o f commercial forest land.
