All my love 4 life, Nahni Open letter to all Tribal members: Craig Whitehead, Pow Wow Manager, had asked me if our royalty could perform the Lord's Prayer in traditional sign language for Wayne Newton during his performance at Chinook Winds. I thought this was a great oppor tunity for our young ladies to represent our tribe at pur Chinook Winds anniversary weekend. I was very surprised when the five ladies came out and performed the Lord's Prayer. Royalty was represented, but also performing were Selene Rilatos, the cultural coordinator, and Pat Darcy, a non-tribal member, who was introduced as our tribe's spiritual advisor. I have received a number of complaints regarding a non-tribal member being intro duced as our spiritual advisor. I w ant to inform all tribal members that the Tribal Council was unaware that anyone other than pur royalty was going to S d efy 'HetM. Community Announcements perform, and certainly the Tribal Council did not appoint a non-, tribal member as a spiritual advisor. I believe this incident was caused by miscommunication at several points. The Tribal Council will be taking the necessary steps to assure that this situation does not occur in the future in any forum. Wayne Newton enjoyed the performance so much that he invited the ladies to open for him in Branson, Missouri. - 1 would hope that only our royalty accepts this gracious invitation because I know w e are all proud of the manner in which they have represented our tribe, and it will be a well-deserved, rewarding experience for them. Sincerely, Pat Duncan Tribal Chair A big thank-you to Lori Dear Lori Johnson, We appreciate all the help and time you have given us this year in the Summer Youth Employment Program in the Portland Area Office. With so many participants and so little time, you have been a tremendous help in getting the Summer Youth enrolled in their Summer School Programs. From running school to school, giving us all the names of youth aged 14 to 18 so we were sure to send them an invitation, and calling the school counselors. With all the improvements made in the Program, it was very giving of you to offer to help us with no questions asked and just dive in. Since you are the Education Special ist and did the Tribal Youth Employment Program last year, you knew just what to do. We would have been lost getting the Program going without you. Thank you very much, Diane M. Robertson Tribal Services Specialist Angela D. Ramirez Tribal Services Assistant Thanks to all My name is Carlene Easter. I would like to thank my family and friends for being by my side while I was in the hospital. And for all the pretty flowers, cards, balloons I got while I was in there. And to the people who called and prayed for me, it meant a lot to me and 1 thank you all. Carlene Easter Thank you, Salena I would like to acknowledge before the tribe • what a blessing Salena Kessinger has been to my family. During my granddaughter Hannah's recent complicated delivery and first three weeks of life, as well as my own illness, Salena has been an angel. Salena is always polite and helpful. She shows concern when I, or other members of my family have talked to her, and most of all she does not hassle patients or try to make them feel like they are abusing the system by asking for help. When Dr.'s office personnel have messed up paperwork or not submitted referrals, etc., Salena goes out of her way to get things straightened out. I have never met Salena, but I would like her to know that she is appreciated. There are still people in the world like her who have the "do unto others as you would want them to do unto you attitude" that our elders taught. If s refreshing to see it still exists! To all of my family, friends and co-workers who have been, and continue to to, pray for Hannah and myself - THANK YOU and GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU! You know that I will do the same for you if ever the need arises. Love to all, Beck Downey Williams & Family For Gloria She has come to the end of summer's sweet encampment, where friendly breezes stir the spirit. Willingly, she yields to this new wind and its promise. She sowed the seeds of love and laughter, as long as she had breath that's warm. Her courage, should give us strength to tend the fire of passion, Through the cold winter storms. With love, Paula For my sister Gloria There will always be pain in my heart with her gone. I still think every once in a while I can pick up the phone and call to tell her something, but that will be no more. I miss her so much. I hope everybody will spend enough time with their family and have good times because you never know when you will lose them and then i f s too late. Take the time now and there will be no regrets later. I wish now I would have spent more time with my sister. I am so lucky to have my boys when times are hard. Thank you, Jarrod and Jason for always being there for me. I would like to thank Shari, Loraine, Selene and Renee for being there for me when I needed you. I was having a hard time dealing with losing my sister and you made it easier by being patient with me. I know I didn't make it easy on you. I love you all. Boo
