Chinook Winds S ile t z N ew s Award-w¡nn¡na chef Culinary excellence comes to Chinook Winds TERESA MILLER Public Relations Quality, consistency and courtesy are the key words used in Executive Chef Robert Whiffen's statements regarding the upcoming innovations to take place under his direction in the Chinook Winds Buffet and in the fine dining of the Siletz Room. Hired as the Executive Chef/Food and Beverage Manager on July 1, Chef Whiffen has a long list of credits to his name that attest to his ability to produce the finest cuisine on the Oregon Coast. Silver medalist at the 1992 International Culinary Competition in Winnepeg, Ontario, Canada; Bronze Medalist at the 1990 National Restaurant Show in Chicago; numerous bronze medals in American Culinary Competitions held across the United States; Custom Foods International Award :for Excellence in 1996; 1995 Washington State Chef's Association Chef of the Year are a sampling of the awards he hasreceived. Chef Robert Whiffen P r o fe s s io n a l Chef's Associ ation, Chef Whiffen was the President in 1991; Chairman of Horizons 2000; Apprenticeship Chairman; and Treasurer, as well as holding mot other offices, serving on numerous committees and acting as representative at several conventions. A certified Executive Chef, for several years Chef Whiffen was the trouble shooter for the national chain of Radisson Inns, and has also been employed as the Corporate Chef for the Seymor Logan Hotel Corporation. The combination of a new challenge and the lure of the ORegon Coast were the two factors which contributed to Chef Whiffen's decision to move with his wife, Ginny, to Lincoln City from the Seattle area. Siletz to host Spring Competition Pow-wow TERESA MILLER Public Relations Follow the Sound of the Drums to the Siletz Tribe's 1st Annual Spring Competition Pow Wow The Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians of Oregon will hold their first annual Spring Competition Pow Wow at Chinook Winds Casino in Lincoln City, March 28. The public is invited to this event beginning with Grand Entry at noon on Saturday in the Convention Center. This is the first of what will become an annual event to be held the last weekend in March each year. Grand entries will be at noon and 6 pm. Admission is free. Native American Arts and Crafts Vendors, Competition Dancing, Fry Bread, and a blend of Northwest Native American culture are just part of the total pow- I want to wish my loving Valentine a Wonderful Sweethearts Day. I love you, my Heart. Mrs. B wow experience. Displays pertaining to the Siletz Tribal culture and history will be available for those who wish to better understand tribal customs. Dance competition will include Adults, Teens, and Youth in Traditional, Grass, Jingle and Fancy Dance categories. Prizes range from $25 to $500. Pow Wow's are native celebrations with a festival flavor - a coming together for trade, competition, socializing and just plain fun.
