Saturday as the Cougars stunned the 10-2 Um pqua
Riverhaw ks 81-65, Freshm an guard C lay Su llivan

p o in ts at th e ch arity strip e . S u lliv a n ’ s 13 p o in ts

The Cougars con tin ued to increase th eir lead in
the second h a lf and 3 -p o in ter from Su lliv an w ith
15:27 left in the game gave Clackam as a 12 point lead

C lackam as shot 48.3 percent from the field led by
Gehrig (19. points)., Sullivan (16 pointe) and freshm an

The Cougars now sit in fourth place w ith a league
record o f 8 -4 and travel to Clark College W ednesday
to take on the P engu ins (13-10, 5-7)-

Roseburg to w in their fourth straight gam e, beating
the 2 1 -4 ,1 0 -2 Riverhaw ks 93-87.
- Sophom ore guard CJ “ B u c k e ts ” B uckley scored
36 on 12-20 sh o o tin g for the Co ugars, w ith seven
o f her 36 p o in ts com in g in overtim e.
Freshman guard Ambreece Gaskins and sophomore
guard M iranda Jensen added 14 points apiece o ff the
b en ch w hile fresh m an p ost Landy W illiam s added
12 p o in ts and eigh t rebounds.
The co n te st w as m o stly tig h t wire to w ire, but at
the b egin n in g o f th e fourth quarter Clackam as held
an e ig h t-p o in t lead 69-61.

B u ck ley m ade a pair o f free throw s to give the
C o u g a rs a n 83-81 lead w ith le s s th a n a m in u te
to p la y, b ut U m p q u a ’ s fre sh m a n forw ard D arian

led b rie fly , b ut a layup by fre sh m a n guard Paige
Dow ner w ith 17 seconds le ft in overtim e gave the
Cougars the lead for good. B uckley iced the gam e
by h ittin g four fo u l sho ts in the fin a l 10 seconds.
The 93-87 w in was C la ck am as’ first over Um pqua
since th ey beat the Riverhaw ks 97-95 on Feb. 13,
2016, th a t gam e also stretch in g in to overtim e.

O n Jan . 22, Tim Cook em ailed an
in vite to C lackam as C o m m u n ity
College staff to attend a Portland
Winterhawks game.
“♦Since we haven’t had any snow
or ice this year (fingers crossed,)
let’ s get a taste of it at a Portland
Winterhawks hockey gam e,” Cook
stated in the em ail, as at the time
snow was not a likely occurrence.
The gam e to o k place Sunday
against the Seattle Thunderbirds,
where a whole block was reserved
so lely for C C C s ta ff. Lori H a ll,
Keoni McHone and members of the
A ssociated Student G overnm ent
w ere b u t a fe w o f th o s e in
attendance.
The fans only got louder as the
gam e w ent o n , w ith several o f
them em phatically slam m ing the
glass. For a moment the jumbotron
showed a sm all section of the CCC
b lo ck — m an y o f th em w earing
hats that said “ PD X” w ith crossed
hockey sticks and a small puck; the
hats were given to sta ff members
in attendance, with m any of them
not wearing CCC gear and wearing
Winterhawks gear or warm clothing
instead.
The battle on the boards continued
and tensions rose, but the referees
were quick to separate any players
getting too close. W ith all o f the
action on the ice, the cold quickly
became forgettable. The first goal
went to the W interhawks and the
second to the Thunderbirds,but the
game ultim ately ended with a 5-2
Portland victory. Several members
o f the A SG had never attended a
hockey gam e but rem arked that
they loved it.

Clackam as Com m unity College to
come together,” Jinyoung Park said.
“ Despite it being my first hockey
gam e, I generally understood what
was happening and I found m yself
very engaged in the game. It was a
very fun experience.”
Cook w as, unfortunately, unable
to attend the game him self due to
a conflict, H all said.
