th eaters by storm
r back in February 12
of 2016, and two years
later Twentieth Century
Fox is looking to h it the jackpot again with
Deadpool 2. O fferin g an ‘R ’ rating, folks
were shocked to see a superhero m ovie
take such a dark route though few that left

N ow w ith th e
S
Deadpool 2 on May 18, audiences across
th e n atio n are r e clin in g in th eir seats
w ondering if the mere w ith a m ou th can
deliver w ithout the aid o f shock factors.
For those th at have been follow ing the
X - M e n film s over th e years an d h av e
stayed lo y al to th e serie s, d esp ite th e
inconsistent tim elin e and at tim es poor
w riting, they w ill be pleasantly surprised
at the inspiration drawn from th e X -M e n
universe. This w as only a m atter o f tim e
as Deadpool’ s roots lie deeply in this
very universe, and more than one
cameo from fhe m utants is seen
throughout th e film .
A n o th e r n o tab le fa cto r in
t h is film s favor is its b u d ge t.
Deadpool was able to set box office
records w ith a budget o f only $58 m illion ,
w hile Deadpool 2 sported a m uch larger
foundation to build on w ith a budget o f
$110 m illion. Thankfully, it’s apparent that
every cent o f th at budget w ent towards
numerous aspects o f this film and without
such a large budget, the success o f th is
sequel would be questionable. Throughout
a good chunk of the movie we see Deadpool
w ithout his costum e, and Ryan Reynolds
is given a chance to express more of Wade
W ils o n ’ s ch aracter th a n th e com p u ter

w elcom e and refreshing.
A s for story, this m ovie certainly didn’t
attem pt to voyage anywhere new, M an y
film critic s raise c o m p la in t over love
interests and how th ey detract from the
m ain characters’ progression as w ell as
th e story overall, and th is is an instance
w here th ey have been proven right. W e
see very little o f the quirky relationship
b e tw e en W ad e (D ea d p o o l) an d Sarah
th at w e saw in t h e original film , instead
w e get a very n orm al and m on otonou s
relationship th a t doesn’t m esh w ell w ith
Deadpool’ s personality in the slightest.-
A s for Cable (the tim e traveling son o f
Cyclops from th e future,) Josh Brolin fell
short in m any areas and lacked a dynamic
personality. H is dialogue was bland and
his presence was not justified as m uch as
it should have been. D espite th is, Brolin
gets a credibility pass as his perform ance
in In fin ity W ar still stands as one o f the
m ost im pressive this year.
A ll in a ll, D e a d p o o l 2 is c e rta in ly
e n te r ta in in g . P le n ty o f a c tio n , crude
jokes and body dism em berm ent for the
w hole fam ily and I certainly recom m end
th at people see it. Though I would have
lik ed som e less lazy w ritin g in certain
photos provided bv Twentieth Century Fox
areas, and I do believe th is is slightly less
im pressive th an the first, The path that
this has set the X -M e n universe on is very
interesting and raises a lo t o f questions;
and th e m ovies th at follow th is should
certain ly look to tou ch m ore upon-this
neglected group of comic book characters.
Reeling in an im pressive $125 m illion in
its opening w eekend, W ade W ilson and
friends are sm iling all the way to the bank.
