T H E ROOKIE
The Rookie
Sam : The Rookie gave us all that hope that, no matter how
m uch tim e goes b y, you can always achieve som ethin g
great. A s Jim M orris takes the m ound for the first tim e
in his m ajo r-leagu e career, try not to shed a tear;
Sam : “ It’ s hard not to be rom antic about baseball.” This
true story o f how the 2002 Oakland A ’ s were able to defy
the odds and m ake a team out o f n othing while trying to
chan ge baseball w ill m ake you reth in k the gam e itself.
Doug: The story o f a h igh school chem istry being pushed
by the players he coaches to pursue his dream o fb e in g a
m ajor league pitcher is enough to m ake anyone a little
em otional. This is the only Disney sports m ovie I know
o f and the only one I ever w ant to know.
D oug: B illy. Bean. Seeing w here “ th e m agic h ap p en s”
beh ind th e scenes in a baseball organization was eye
opening in this m ovie. Billy Bean was hated by baseball
because he broke the m old. Anyone that knows the sport
know s th at baseball HATES originality.
Jaco b : About a 35-year-old science teacher who never
gives up on his dream o fb e in g a MLB pitcher. The movie
is a great reminder that we’re never too old to accom plish
our dream s.
Ja co b : A baseball m ovie for fan s o f hardcore statistics.
The m akers o f th is film did a very nice job sim p lifyin g
the M oneyball strategy, and w ith m isfit players on their
last chance in the M ajors, it is an em otional m ovie.

movie in cinem a, the magnum opus of baseball movies.
Doug: Okay, so, fair warning, I hate this movie. It is slow,
boring and basically one dude tripping on acid, much like his
wife says! I get that it is a dreamer movie and pulls at a lot of
people’s heart strings but not m ine, no sir.T h is is the lone
Kevin Costner movie I can not get behind.
