TRACK PLACE THIRD IN THEIR DIVISION
Clackam as C o m m u n ity College track
and field can now put another successful
seaso n ,in th e b o o k s. B o th m e n ’ s
and w om en’ s team s placed third in
their divisions last week at the NWAC
cham p ion sh ip s;. C la ck am as w om en
scored 114 points while the men scored
120 points and they each earned a spot
on the podium.
The Cougars were able to h igh ligh t
th e tournam ent w ith the performance
o f sophom ore Chelsea Bone, who was
the h ig h point scorer .for the NW AC
to urn am en t and th e w o m en ’ s track
athlete o f the year. Bone com peted in
Six events for.Clackamas and finished 8 j
the top four in each event.

Lib urd . C a m e ro n , com p eted in the
w o m en ’ s 100 -m eter and 2 0 0 -m efer
sprints, placing fourth in the 100 and
second in the 200. Christensen competed
in the hammer throw and javelin, placing
fourth in the hammer throw and second
in jav elin . Liburd com peted in both
the 110-meter and 400-m eter hurdles,
placing third in the 110 and second in
the 400.
Clackamas had 41 athletes qualify and
compete at the NWAC cham pionships,
25 from the m en’s team and 16 from the
women’ s. The Cougars will be losing 23
of their 41 qualifiers next season, but will
Still be holding onto a strpng freshman
group on both teams.

SOFTBALL SOPHOMORES TAKE
ALL-REGION HONORS
The 2017 softball season came to an end
for Clackamas Community College during
thè NWAC championships ip Spokane,
Washington after finishing 2-2 on May
19 and 20.
The Cougars had a rollercoaster
experience of highs and lows during the
weekend after starting the tournament;
o ff with a comeback victory with a walk
o ff w in against H igh line Com m unity
College. Clackamas Was trailing 4-0 going
into the sixth inning and was ablè to win
w ith a 2-run sixth and 3-run seventh
inning, including a walk o ff single from
sophomore Katie Zook.
.C C C advanced to the second round
where they faced Edmonds Community
College in another comeback win. As the
home team again, Clackamas went into
the sixth inning trailing. The Cougars
scored in bunches, putting together a
5-run inning in the fourth, a 7-run inning
in the sixth and sealing a 9-12 victory.
Clackamas faced the No. 1 seed in the
tournament in Douglas College. After the
Royals jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, the
Cougars responded with a 4-run inning in
♦the fourth. CCC took a 3-run lead going
into the top of the seventh where Douglas
was able to score 4 runs and hold onto to
win 8 -7. Clackamas then fell to eventual
NWAC Champions Wenatchee Valley by a
score of 6 -4 and were eliminated.
A rg u a b ly , th e h ig h lig h t o f th e
tournament came from outfielder Jamie
Phares when she robbed a Grand Slam
in a tied gaihe against Wenatchee Valley
by making a diving catch into the fence.
Clackam as finished the season w ith
seven players earning positions on the
Sduth A IH R egion team . Sophom ores
H an n ah V an D o m elen , p itch er; Tori
O ’N eill, infield; Katie Rose W hetstine,
catcher; and Presley Turin, DH , earned
first team honors while sophomores Katie
Zook, infield; Jamie Phares, outfield; and
Kenzi Klueken, catcher; earned second
teain honors. VanDomelen also earned
Southern Region Pitcher o f the year.
The sophom ore-heavy team w ill be
moving on next season while losing 13 of
their 18 players on roster, seven o f which
earned All-Region honors. The Cougars
will be looking to add a strong recruiting
class to their team next year. j
