    Wrestling falls 3.5 points short

W ith a season that was as historical as
it can get, the Clackam as Com m unity
College w restling team had their hearts
rip p ed o ut o f th e ir ch e s ts b y Iowa
Central’ s heavyweight Thomas Petersen
after he was declared the w inner in his
285-pound finals match.
Going into the NJCAA national finals
round, Clackamas led by 3.5 points over
b o th Iowa C en tral and N o rth eastern
O klahom a A&M, w ho w ere tied at 135
points.
During the final round, the team score
leaderboard changed six tim es over the
course of ten matches. Clackamas led by a
narrow 2.5 points after 174-pounder Colt
Doyle won his finals match against Adrian
L yon s-Lqp ez o f Southw estern Oregon
Community College.
Clackamas had the potential to possibly
lo ck up th e team title w ith a w in by
184-pounder Haszell “ Bam Bam” West,
but he lost by fall to Preston Lauterbach
o f Iowa W estern Com m u nity College.
Lauterbach w as later nam ed the m ost
outstanding wrestler of the tournament.

Even though Clackam as didn ’ t w in
the national team title, they came home
w ith a total of eight All-Am ericans and
two individual national cham pions in
149-pounder Josh Reyes and 174-pounder
Doyle.

decision.
1 2 5 - p o u n d e r D a v id C a m p b e ll,
165-pounder Dillon Ulrey and W est all
earned runrter-up honors after falling in
their finals matches.
141-pounder Kurt Mode was upset in
the quarterfinal round and came back to
earn a third-place finish.
Nathan Johnson (133-pounds) finished
fourth, and 157-pound wrestler John Leal
finished in seventh place.
CCC ends the season w ith its first
undefeated dual m eet season (16-0) in
school history, a fourth straight National
Duals title, a fourth straight regional title,
eigh t A ll-A m erican s and a ru nn er-up
fin is h in th e team stan d in gs at the
National Tournament.
Clackamas wrestling earned the second place trophy at the Mid-American Center
in Council Bluffs, Iowa on Saturday, Feb. 25.
