H oeke is excited to te a ch h er p layers
th e life le ss o n s sh e learn ed as a player
from W oods like discipline, responsibility,
team w o rk and 100 p ercen t e ffo rt in life,
n ot ju st at th e gym .
C h ristian sen said, “ She alw ays pu shes
us. She w a n ts us to do our b e s t.”
K eegan lo oked up to H oeke la st y e ar
w h en she w as an a ssistan t coach. “ S h e’ s
re a lly u p b e at and p o s itiv e and s h e ’ s a
great volleyb a ll player. S h e’ s d efin itely a
role m odel for m e. S h e’ s really in spiring.
S h e ’ s a great co a ch ,” said Keegan.
H o e k e s a id , “ I t ’ s 100 p e r c e n t in
volleyball, it’ s 100 percent in school, right
now , fo r th ese girls and 100 p ercen t in
life la te r.”
S h e d id n ’ t re a lize it d u rin g h e r tim e
p laying for W oods but th e traits W oods
passed on to her w ere im p actfu l later on
in her life.
H oeke is also p ra cticin g h e r ju g g lin g
sk ills o f b e in g a v o lle y b a ll coach and a
m om o f a 6 -y e a r-o ld son and a 2 -y e a r-
old daughter.
“ It’ s juggling som etim es and som etim es
m y kids kind o f have to be gym rats and
th a t’ s w h at I kn ew I signed up for w h en I
to ok th e head coach ing jo b ,” said H oeke.
“ I kn ew it w as going to be like th a t.”
W hen sh e’ s at volleyball, Hoeke focuses
her mind on volleyball and w h en at hom e,
she has her focus on hom e. She has other
th in gs go in g on too like h er h u sb an d ’ s
job, fam ily, get-to g eth e rs, birthdays and
oth er th in gs like th at. She said her kids
are le a rn in g h o w to b e fle x ib le and be
e xcited about doing th in gs.
“ It’ s a ch allen ge for m e and it ’ s a fun
ch allen ge and I accepted th at challen ge
w h e n I to o k th e jo b and i t ’ s e x c itin g ,”
said H oeke. “ It’ s a good chap ter in life .”
Don’t forget to catch the CCC volleyball team at their
next home match Oct. 28 vs. Chemeketa. They are also
competing in the Dorian Harris Halloween Classic Oct.
30 and 31 at Mt. Hood Community College.
