student discounts

Being a college student is tough, especially finan
cially. From buying ridiculously expensive books that
you barely use to eating ram en for dinner every night
d ue to sky-rocketing tuition, we could use a helping
h an d every now and then.
Lucky for us, m any places un d erstan d th e college
life struggle. I asked P ortland Co m m u n ity College
student D aphne Weaver w hat places she knew o f that
,offered stu d en t discounts.
“A lo t o f places will have discounts to take advan
tage o f for students,” said Weaver. “A lot o f art stores,
I know Jo-Ann’s does.”
I spoke to stu dent Kelsey Sm oot asking w hat dis
counts she used to h er advantage.
“Ace Hardware, Frack Burger,” Smoot said. “I think
they offer 10 percent off at both.” Craft stores, online
stores, hardw are stores and m y favorite; restaurants.

th a t th ey offer a student discount, b u t if you ask and
have a student ID to back you up, you will find your
self saving money. Some o f the places on this list vary

C ourt. It’s a little sandw ich shop and they offer soups
an d pastries an d they do a dollar student discount,
like if you bu y a sandw ich, you get a dollar off. A nd
O h Teriyaki doesn’t offer a student discount b u t they
have th e bento box that’s $3.50 now and it’s a big tray
th a t has like chicken, vegetables, and rice. So it’s n o t
a stu d en t d iscount b u t it’s really cheap.”
