ball court from players practicing
for th eir next game. They are th e
athletes of CCC.
One o f th é athletes is Celeste
Ventura, a freshm an an d a high
jum per for th e track an d field
team. Ventura, originalty from
Silverton, is a full-time stu d en t
and has a part-tim e job. The
Clackamas P rin t w anted to know
how a typical athlete juggles h e r
responsibilities.
T h e C lackam as P rin t: Walk
m e through your average day.
V e n tu ra : Mondays and
W ednesdays are m y b u siest
days; I w ake up a t 8:30 a.m.,
get ready, get m y backpack for

so I sit through math. Then a t 12,

m y psychology class it's m y track
practice until 4. We do o u r w o rk -.

Usually people go hom e b u t 1
have class. It’s an ASL (American
Sign Language) class after my

Then I go hom e an d m a k e ,

stu d en t an d an athlete so it's
p retty busy.
TCP: How do you stay on top
o f it all?
V e n tu ra : I g et a lo t o f help
from m y parents, especiallym y
mom. She helps m e a lo t w ith m y

u s e d to procrastinate a lo t... For
w ork I g e t scheduled aro u n d m y
school an d track so they know
w h at's going on. They know
th a t I am a n athlete an d th ey are
m ore th a n willing to h elp me.
W ith school I have classes back to

I always do som e hom ew ork.
TCP: H ow do you stay fueled?
V e n tu ra : You have to be
realty nutritional if you w a n t to
a t least m aintain healthy diets.
Being a student, everything i s .
expensive since you are paying
for school an d rent, so I ’m realty
tight o n money. It sucks going to
go buy groceries because all of
tiie healthy food is expensive, b u t
you m ake do. I do an all carb diet
th en I ju st w o rk it off during m y
practices.

4 ' 5" w hich is really bad. I’ve
b een w orking oh it in practice

TCP: How did you get injured?
V e n tu ra : 1 used to have a shin
splint in m y left leg and th a t cam e
b ack because o u r track isn’t very
good. It's definitety injury prone;
it's realty to m up. Because of
h ow to m up th e track is, m y shin
splint cam e back an d th a t p u t m e
out. 1 had to build up m y muscle
so n ow I'm injury free b u t it's
always on th e back of m y mind.
’Hie dow nside of doing track is
getting hurt; n o t being able to do
