Masturbation is no t ¡a n ew
thing to the, people in, the world.
It has been around for hundreds
o f years. Even in ancient times, it ~
hi is been reu h ded that m en .md
w om en would masturbate.

“There are so many schools being
closed right now. The classroom sizes
are out o f "control. All o f this is sup
posed to be saving education when
it’s really, well, it’s killing it,” said
Mach.
One o f the m ost frequently recur
ring themes o f the play is that there is
no measure o f education.
‘T read a book, it’s by Diane
Ravitch, called ‘The Death and Life o f
the Great American School System,”’
said Mach, “[is foe book is about foe]
potential that comes with the testing
for test masters and software creators
that are getting an awful lo t o f money
o ff o f foe public school system,” as
well as that “I mean, it’s in foe higher
education too, but foe story just sort o f
manifested itself ” .
Mach, in regards to her involve
m ent in foe production o f foe plays
themselves, stated that she attend
ed foe auditions, but that she did
not make any final decisions about
anyone involved; in-cluding direc
tors, actors and foe theater companies
themselves.
During foe “talk-back” w hich
took place after foe Jan. 12 show,
Ellen Fader, a retired librarian with
her Master’s degree, described foe
s h o w 'a s “theater o f foe absurd.
Unfortunately, this is a reality.”
The “talk-back” gave foe audience
a chance to comment on th ep lay or
ask questions and clarify. In response
to multiple questions pertaining to foe
topic o f race, the direcSeantor stated
he believed there w as an “emphasis
on poverty over race.”
M ach’s

Burkhartsmeier, a high school teacher
at West View High School in Port
land, is performing in foe show
alongside Jackfyn Maddux, Maureen
Porter, Jon San Nicolas, Rolland
Walsh, Gavin Hoffinan and is directed
by Philip Cuomo foe executive direc
tor o f Port-land Actor’s Conservatory.
The show runs through Feb. 3. *
Additionally, “The Lost Boy”
is being performed at foe Artist’s
Reparatory Theater o ff o f 15fo and

a rich family who has been abducted
and is being held for ransom. The
play has been described as-colota
ful and takes place in Pennsylvania
amidst a circus in foe m id 1870s;'
. The recurring theme o f foe play; is;
^exploitation, specifically in reference
to a parent’s vulnerability.
, Linda Davis, who was visiting
Portland from N ew . Hampshire,
described foe play as “eye-catching”

M any people wouldn’t confess
to masturbating. Mien m ore com
monly will jo b s around about plea
suring themselves, while w om en
keep it to themselves. Masturbation
is normal, It’s normal i f you d b it
and it’s normal if you don’t There
are m any ways that people can
masturbate, “A range o f wa>s is
"normal,”’ said Paul JcuntMcks, a
psychoanalyst in Waldport, OR.
Another myfo about masturbat
ing is that rt is bad for you, for m t»
it’s been said that it can reduce the
amount o f semen they can produce
and makes th a n intotile. H ie truth
about it is that it doesn’t reduce the
am ount ofsem en any m an can pro
duce and it m ost definitely doesn’t
m ake them infertile. For w om en
it w as believed that it reduces their
chance o f ever becoming p reg n an t;
and reduces their sex drive. Intact,
this is almost opposite. It actually
stimulates ones honnenes and can
give w om en m ore o f a likely pos
sibility to get p reg ran t

Dildos and fleshlights have
become quite popular sex tov»
being sold in m any sex shops all
across the world as w ell as on
the Internet. Masturbation aids
are something people talk about
m ore and m ore and they aren’t as
embarrassing as tfrev once w ere
to own. N o matter if y o u use a
toy or just your hand, reaching the
climax is all that matters because it
is medically pro v o i to relieve stress
and improve ones day.
'
“It can improve a depressed
mood,’’ said Kathleen Segraves, a
sex therapist and associate profes
sor o f psychiatry at Case Western
Reserve University and a therapist
at \k tn ,h e a lth M tdica) ( e n te r
in Cleveland, Ohio. ‘N o t clini
cal depression, but the ‘blue tank’
days.”
“With solo sex, there is n o dis
traction and you can focus m your •
ow n experience without m aking
sure someone else is having a good
time,” Segraves said
In conclusion, if you choose
to masturbate or have tun with a
partner, it is your choice, but being
safe is key. Just remember, lode
your door, use protection or any
necessity and have a good time, t '
