Film Festival brings unique
films to viewers

People briskly walk into tKe N ewm ark Theatre in Portland.
‘T hankfully we don’t have to w ait,” hue man said to his com pan­
ion as they picked up their advance tickets during the first week
o f the festival".
O utside, o f the theater, people waited anxiously in .th e
rain to buy tickets at the door for the opening night o f
the annual Portland International Film Festival (PIFF),
alas they w aited in vain, only to be sent .away after an
hour wait. T he PIFF' began w ith a showing o f Great
Britain’s “Salmon Fishing in the Yemen,” starring Ewan
McGregor, followed by an after party w ith com plim en­
tary drinks and refreshments.
T he PIFF has been a Portland tradition for 35 years,’

adviser and' completed all financial
aid paperwork.”-
