3D slasher movie just a gimmie
. Jake Whitten
11 The Clackamas Print
All movies should now be
made in 3D.
Although it is also being
shown in 2D, “My Bloody
Valentine” was clearly made
as a demonstration for how far
3D technology has advanced
since the old 50’s 31>movies.
With guns being point
ed at the audience and pick
axes being thrown at them, it
would’ve been an entertaining
film without an actual plot.
But instead we get a recycled
one, where a killer chases
people around for most of the
movie before the hero or her
oine stops them, usually after
watching all of their friends
and family become victims.
In this particular story the
killer is a miner named Harry
Warden, who is the soul survi
vor of a cave in, and is found
unconscious. While he is in
the hospital in a coma, it is
determined the other people
in the cave didn’t die by suf
focation, but that they were
murdered by Warden so he
could keep all the air to him

All throughout the week differ
ent veteran resource providers come
to the center at scheduled times
for a few hours to help veterans
with things such as obtaining legal
advice, collecting veterans bene
fits, helping veterans to get jobs as
well as retraining veterans in order
to obtain skills for new jobs. One
resource provider even helps vets
obtain state and federal VA mort
gages.
Although to some it seems per
fectly reasonable why veterans
would get a separate space reserved
for them, Curry, a veteran in the
military for 26 years, says that in her
experience she has seen that a lot of
non-veteran students don’t really
understand why it is needed.
“We tend to be in places where
very unusual things happen,” Curry
explained, “Not to say we’re any
better.”
Jeff Davis, a .veteran and student
adviser, says that there is an entirely
different way of life in die military
that few if any outside can really
understand.
“It’s difficult to give that up and
fit back in,” Davis said.
That’s where places like the
Veterans Center become integral in
the readjustment from military to
civilian, and previously, they have
been scarce.
Zuelke equates the Veterans
Center assisting veterans to be no
different than a math lab to help tutor
those in need of learning math.
“This is in my mind a direct
expression of the Clackamas mis
sion,” Zuelke said, “creating lifetime
opportunities of success through
responsive education.”
To Davis, it is important that
the college has the center because
according to him, Clackamas
County has one of the highest popu
lations of veterans in the state.
Although the foundation for
the Veterans Center has been laid,
many involved in its creation and
those who use its services agree that
is has the potential to become some
thing even more majestic.
Curry believes that one thing that
would help boost the center would
be having her current boss Sharon
Maggard, veteran services

tions of the center. As she has expe
rienced, usually the first contact vet
erans will make is with the veteran
services coordinator and also veter
ans often become well acquainted
with their coordinator.
“She would like to be involved
very much,” Curry said regarding
Maggard.
Zuelke has chosen to leave her
out of the Veterans Center project
because in his opinion it is simply
not her job.
“Sharon’s job, her specialty is
veterans benefits,” Zuelke said,
“Student services is my job.”
Zuelke went on to explain that
Maggard’s job entails her helping
with veteran’s financial needs and
not other issues.
Maggard preferred not to com
ment at this time about feelings
regarding her level of involvement.
Another way to help improve the
Veterans Center that has crossed the
minds of ipany involved with it, is
getting word out about the center.
“I think we need to get it adver
tised more ... so the veterans know
it’s here, to let them know the ser
vices are there ” Curry said.
The eventual hope to both Toral
and Curry is that eventually the
Veterans Center will gain its own
building, but for now they are happy
the school has it in general.
“It’s a baby... we have to take
baby steps and let it grow from
there,” Curry said.
Zuelke is just proud that in some
way the school and community
could help those who served our
nation.
“It’s kind of a special time to
give back,” Zuelke proudly said.
“It’s a cool opportunity to do some
thing right”
Although the Veterans Center
is located on campus, the services
and space provided by it are open
to all veterans, not just students.
However, the space is reserved
solely for those who have been
in the services in order to provide
a quiet place where veterans can
study, relax and unwind in a loca
tion where they know they are
understood.
