With elections over, American
citizens everywhere have chosen
the next leader of the nation. But
what do people think of the previ
ous one?
After an eight-year-long run in
the White House, President George
W. Bush’s presidency is coming to
an end. During his two terms the
country has been through war,
terrorism, an economic crisis and
natural disasters.
“He was only president because
his dad was,” said Taylor Wilkins,
a Clackamas student.
The overall view of Bush’s pres
idency is fairly negative, but many
people cannot give legitimate rea
sons for disliking the president.
It would seem that some people
go along with what
others
about him without looking at all
the facts. However, those who do
have reasons to back their state
ments made excellent points.
“I just don’t like him,” said
Masha Williams, a Clackamas stu
dent.
The way he handled the war on
terrorism is what people usually
dislike the most about Bush, say
ing he went too far and that we
should never have invaded Iraq.
Some went so far as to say that
Bush was directly responsible for
the 9/11 attacks, saying it was a
government conspiracy.
Other, policies that people
believe were handled incorrectly
are the No Child Left Behind
Act, because it actually took
funding away from schools, and
Bush’s slow response to Hurricane
Katrina.
“He was one of the worst presi-
dents we have ever had, ' ” said
student Angel Rodriguez, “I’m
learning to become a
teacher.
Child Left Behind took jj
from schools.”
But not all the comments
were negative. Some del
Bush, and believe that he ha
a good job. Ironically, it
same reason that people like
that they don’t like him -t|
on Terror. Some are glad hi
after the terrorists so stj
and think that he has done a
job at protecting the countn
future attacks.
“Ever since 9/11, thei
yet to be another major
on the U.S.,” said Page J
Clackamas student.
Some say it is unfair to
all blame on the presidl
everything that has gone!
because it wasn’t all his del
but the decision of many. I
“George Bush was just al
goat for the entire goveta
mistakes, not just his,” sai
