Clackamas creeps up on NWAACi
The Clackamas men’s and
women’s cross country
teams will host and partic
ipate in the Southern
Region Championships
this Saturday. The
women’s race will begin at
11 a.m. and the men at
11:45 a.m. at the
Clackamas soccer field.

By the look of the score you
would think that the Clackamas
women’s soccer team had a rough
game on Thursday at home
against Lower Columbia College,
but this was not the case.
The Cougars possessed the
ball on offense for about 85 of the
90 minutes in the match, and out
shot LCC 38-2.
Cougar Head Coach Tracy
Nelson said, “If [you] look at the
start of the game we should have
been scoring, but we struggled to
finish it off.”
Struggle is what they did.
Clackamas had a hard time get
ting the ball into the net, thanks to
die relentless defense of Lower
Columbia.
LCC used a unique defensive
strategy in the second half, drop
ping back nine of their players to
play defense on the usually relent
less Cougar offense.
“They are the. second team to
press against us like that; the
other team was Olympic,” Nelson
said.
Olympic is the only team other
than Lower Columbia to put a
blemish on the Cougars’ record so
far this season when they tied the
Cougars 1-1 earlier in the year.
It wasn’t that the Cougars
weren’t getting their shots off; the
ball just couldn’t find the net.
The Cougars ricocheted five
shots off the post and had count
less opportunities for shots on
goal with terrific passing from
Amanda Triller on the comer
kicks.
“As the game went on, the
chances [on goal] became less
and less,” Nelson said.
The
lone
scorer
from
Clackamas was Emily Ingalls.
The goal was set up by great tran
sition from defense to offense and
was assisted by Vicky Rodriguez.
The offensive game plan for
Clackamas was to get the ball
wide and keep getting their cross
es into the middle of the field for
scoring opportunities.
While they did a great job of
crossing the ball into the middle
of the field, the shots were just not
finding the back of the net.
The Cougars were able to
rebound on Saturday with a 3-1
victory
over
Southwestern
Oregon CC, with two goals com
ing from Ingalls, and a goal from
freshman Tiana Meduri.
