Clackamas kicks around Green River CC, still undeafea\

The Clackamas Women’s soc
cer team continued their undefeat
ed season of successes last week
end with a 7-0 shutout of Green
River CC.
“We showed a good style of
possession and confidence with the
ball,” Head Coach Tracy Nelson
said.
In the first half, the Clackamas
offense controlled the ball 90% of
the time. This unselfishness and
confidence led to five goals in the
first 45 minutes of the game. The
Cougars’ first goal was scored by
Freshman
Forward
Ashley
Webster. Webster played a key role
in the offensive surge in the first
half, shooting on goal four times.
Moments after Webster’s goal,
Freshman
Forward
Vicki
Rodríguez scored, with a nice
move to elude the goalie and put
the ball into the net. Rodríguez was
far from finished; she followed up
her first score with three more
goals in the first half. Great ball
movement by the Cougars helped
them get the ball to where they
wanted it on the field to set up goal
scoring opportunities.
“[We] worked well together as a
team, and played off each other,”
Freshman Mid-fielder Amanda
Triller said.
In the second half, the Cougars
controlled the ball and allowed the
Green River team very few shots
on goal. Even though the defense
wasn’t tested much throughout the
game, they stayed on their toes.
“We are a defensive oriented
team, and a great offense is created
from a great defense,” Nelson said.
When the defense did get beat,
goalkeeper Jessica Engmon was
there to stop everything shot her
way.
“[Engmon] is a great goalie, she
is mentally and physically ready
for the ball,” Coach Nelson said.
With this win the Cougars
improved their overall record to
a mind-boggling 13 wins, zero
losses and one tie. The team will
be at home on Thursday,
Oct. 21 against Lower Columbia
College;
game
time
at 3 p.m.
