The Clackamas track and field
team came through with one of
their better performances of the
season at the NWAACC Track and
Field Championships last weekend
in Spokane, Wash., with the men
finishing third and the women fin
ishing fourth.
“It was a great meet, we had
some outstanding performances by
both the men and the women,” said
Head Coach Jack Kegg. “The men
improved bn their performance in
the Southern Division meet by
defeating all of the other Oregon
schools in the NWAACC meet and
the women just had some gutsy
performances. I am very proud of
both teams.”
The highlight of the meet for
the Cougars was the last javelin
throw by Casey Kauffman, who
provisionally qualified for this
summer’s U.S. Olympic Trials by
throwing the javelin 237’-6” in
winning the event. Kauffman’s
heave also set NWAACC and sta
dium records. Stewart Powell
threw a personal record (PR) of
203’-4” in finishing third.
John Butkey won the NWAACC
title in the 5000-meter run in a time
of 15:15.20, while Eli Navarez fin
