Short plays bring long
laughs at one acts
SHÀDRA BEESLEY
Staff Writer
“It’s like a live-action car
toon,”- Joe Williams, actor.
The student one-acts are in
full swing. Clackamas theater
students have been hard at work
casting, directing and produc
ing one-act plays. Now thé
fruits of their labor are ripe for
their fellow peers to enjoy.
Above, Williams colorfully
describes “Stretch the Bench”
by Carol Korty. Student direc
tor Wendy Reese has chosen to
present this clever comedy in
conjunction
with
“The
Pumpkin,” another play by
Korty. These two plays have
the same cast of characters:
Tall, Small, Extremely Long,
and Clown. Reese found the
two plays in a book of chil
dren’s plays-in which these four
characters are the stars of every
show. Reese’s adaptation stars
Sara Gundell as Tall, Sarah
Rose as Small, Verena Morrill
as Extremely Long, and Jayne
Stevens as Clown.
Kristi McKenzie and her
assistant director Mackenzie
Burnett have chosen to present
“Impromptu” by Tad Mosel. It
is a play about four actors who
are asked to show up and put on
a performance of their choice.
In this play within a play the
actors are searching for the
answer to a profound question.
After working through conflict
ing ideas and personalities “the
characters discover the true
meaning of theater,” McKenzie
explains. The cast consists of
Dave Tahler as Ernest, Joe
Williams as Tony, Annie
Rimmer as Lora, and Dawnie
Drebin as Winifred.
Sarah Rose will present
“Medea”
