Clones attack box office with full force
AARON PATELZICK
Business Manager
“The film is terrific...with a
U.S. Calvary rescue to the end
ing that is going to have Star
Wars fans standing on the seats,
jumping up and down, cheering
and screaming and seeing it as
many times as they can.”
— Joel Siegel, “Good
Morning America”
Given the magnitude and ener
gy of the latest installment in the
Star Wars universe, the Attack of
the Clones is sure to be the best
film since The Empire Strikes
Back. This latest film was amaz
ing. Not only did George Lucas
make the movie dark, but he was
successful at developing the rela
tionship of two of the most
important characters in the story,
Padme Amidala (Natalie Portman)
and Anakin Skywalker (Hayden
Christensen). These characters,
along with Obi-Wan Kenobi
(played by Ewan McGregor), are
the cornerstones to this galactic
adventure that Lucas unfolds
before our very eyes.
Attack of the Clones takes
place ten years after The
Phantom Menace (Episode I).
This film introduces important
details to the story that will not be
fully realized until after the com
pletion of Episode III. Yet, many
of these details tie in directly to A
New Hope (The original Star
Wars movie-Episode IV). We are
presented with more details about
the Jedi Order, how the Jedi
maintained peace during the
reign of the Republic, back
ground information about Padme
and her family, and information
pertaining to the future reign of
the Sith, along with the develop
ment of the Empire. This movie
allows us to see and feel how
darkness infiltrates the peaceful
Republic and transforms it into
the Empire, which the Emperor
and Darth Vadar control in
Episodes IV, V, and VI.
We see many of the same char
acters introduced during Episode
I, except these characters have
grown and developed into more
interesting and influential people.
Anakin is no longer a small,
naive slave boy from the
scorched, desert planet of
Tatooine, but he has become a
young, bold Jedi who desires
power. At one point Anakin says,
“One day I will be the most pow
erful Jedi ever.” This statement
explains how he is drawn into
darkness and how one day he will
become Darth Vadar.
Padme has become a beautiful
Senator for the planet of Naboo.
She has traded her royal robes in
for more attractive outfits that
define her as a woman instead of
as a teenage girl. Even Obi-Wan
Kenobi has changed. His person
ality is less rigid and he seems
more comfortable as a Jedi
Master. We learn the origin of
Boba Fett and the Clonetroopers.
This movie is a multi-faceted
gem of epic proportion.
Love, passion, obsession,
genocide, anger, hatred, action,
war, fear and lies, this movie has
it all. All who enjoy movies
should experience this timely,
epic story. Combined with an out
standing score by John Williams,
this film has all the necessary
ingredients to be the best Star
Wars adventure yet. I agree with
Joel Siegel: “Star Wars fans will
be standing on their seats jump
ing and screaming,” when it
opens nationwide on May 16.
