For the week of Nov. 13-20, the
Portland Trail Blazers were 2-2.
They won against Memphis and
Charlotte, but lost to New York and
Houston. Last week, the Blazers
split both of their games, winning
one out of two.
Portland’s first game was a loss
to the Sacramento Kings at Arco
Arena, 95-83. Chris Webber, once
again, didn’t play for the Kings;
he is still out with an ankle injury
from before the season started.
Even without Webber, the Kings
still managed to top the Blazers and
scored the final 12 points of the
game. Seven Blazers scored in
double figures, including Bonzi
Wells, who finished with 13. Shawn
Kemp also had 12 points. Sacra
mento point guard Mike Bibby was
on fire, finishing with 25 points. He
was
helped
by
Damon
Stoudamire’s self-prescribed stint
on the injured list and Scottie
Pippen’s knee injury. With those
two out, the only players left for
Coach Maurice Cheeks to put in
as point guard were Erick Barkley
and Rick Brunson, who both con
tinually left Bibby open. Zach
Randolph played the final minutes
of the game in place of Rasheed
Wallace, and something, possibly
Cheeks’ decision, seemed to tick
Wailace off quite a bit. Thankfully
he got over it before the next game.
Next up for the Blazers was a
home game against the Denver
Nuggets. Portland was greatly
helped by Wallace’s season high
30 points, and won this one with a
score of 97-90. In the two games
before this, which were both
losses,. Wallace was held to a com
bined 20 points. But the Blazers
have won the last five games whbn
Wallace scored at least 20 points,
while were only 2-5 when he didn’t
reach that mark. Bonzi Wells sat
this game out with a sore right knee.
Wells has averaged 20.5 points
over his first 13 games this season.
Ruben Patterson scored 15 points
in 44 minutes of play, while
Stoudamire came back from the in
jured list and contributed 10. Port
land also committed; a season-low
six turnovers. The Nuggets have
lost the last 12 of 13 games in Port
land.
After this game, the Blazers had
a season record of 7-7. They put
this record to the test on Tuesday
night as they played the Indiana
Pacers at home. Results were un
available at press time.

Oregon State defeated North
ern Arizona on Nov. 17,45-10,
and joined Oregon in sitting out
this past Saturday in prepara
tion for the Civil War game on
Dec. 1. Thanksgiving weekend
proved disastrous for Okla
homa and Nebraska as both
teams lost their respective
games. Miami is ranked first
place in the Bowl Champion
ship Series standings, followed
by Florida at second and Texas
at third. Oregon sits at number
five, with the match against
OSU being their last of the
regular season.
The Seattle Seahawks were
winners in Week 10 of the NFL,
playing against Buffalo, but
lost this past Sunday at Kan
sas City, 19-7. The victory at
Buffalo and the loss at Kansas
City leaves Seattle exactly
where the team was two weeks
ago, with a 5-5 record and in
third place in the AFC West.
Oakland soundly beat the New
York Giants, 28-10, and held
onto first place in the AFC
West. San Francisco took the
Indianapolis Colts to school
Sunday in a 40-21 drumming.
The 49ers are tied with St.
Louis for first place in the NFC
West. The Detroit Lions are
still winless, owning a 0-10
record.
In NHL action, the
Vancouver Canucks ended the
Philadelphia Flyers’ four-game
winning streak Sunday in a 4-1
decision. The Canucks pos
sess an 11-13-2 record and 24
points, good for a third place
tie in the Northwest division in
the Western Conference. San
Jose rests at first place in the
Pacific division of the Western
Conference with 25 points and
a 9-7-4-3 record.
Without any surprise, the
Los Angeles Lakers continue
to own the NBA with a 12-1
record and ownership of .first
place in the Pacific division of
the Western Conference. The
Sacramento Kings trail behind
L. A. in second place with their
10-3 record. For an update on
