“We played excellent,” said
Head Coach Paul Fiskum. “Our
defense was great and our pitch
ing was outstanding.”
The Cougars dominated over
South Puget Sound last Tuesday
with scores of 9-0 and 10-2. One
hit and two errors were allowed by
Clackamas in the first game and
three hits and three errors in the
second.
“We can’t expect better throw
ing than we got,” said Fiskum of
the pitching in the games. “We are
excited about where we are.”
Pitcher Vanessa Holm, chosen
player of the week, allowed one hit,
had five strikeouts and no walks in
game one. Casey Lapp allowed
two hits, had five strikeouts and
gave up two walks in game two.
Not only was the pitching good
Tuesday, the bats were on fire;
Cheristy Hargrave went two for
three at the plate, hitting a single,
triple and driving in three runs and
hitting a home run in game two.
Melissa Borde hit three for three
in game one and two for three in
game two. Tiffany Lepschat hit
three for four with a single and two
doubles in game two.
“We swept them last week,” said
Borde. “We played well defensively
and in hitting.”
In Wednesday’s game against
Grays Harbor, the Cougars domi
nated again with scores of 11-2 and
14-0.
The Cougars were hot defen
sively as well, having an almost
perfect game less one error in game
two. Holm pitched a no-hitter with
three strikeouts and no walks in
game two.
“We had some people doing
some great things,” said Fiskum.
In game one, Lapp pitched one
hit, nine strikeouts and no walks
in the first five innings. Darbey
Neun pitched the last two innings
having one hit, three strikeouts and
one walk.
Leading hitters in the two games
include Hargrave, who hit a home
run; Nikky Staley, who hit a grand
slam and drove in seven runs; and
Kira Reed went two for two.
With the rain over the weekend,
Saturday and Sunday games were
cancelled, allowing the team to rest.
“We have a tough week ahead,”
said Fiskum. “It should be a fun
week; I think we are ready for it.”
The Cougars play at home
against Mt. Hood today and at
Chemeketa on Friday.

Holm is a freshman at
Clackamas and is a graduate of
Willamina High School.
