Season
Men’s Basketball MVP injured
before NWAACC tournament
DARREL HOBSON
Staf Writer
Earlier this week, Point Guard Mark
Campbell received Southern Division
Most Valuable Player honors. No
sooner than the award was given,
Campbell hurt his wrist on his shoot
ing hand. The injury occurred during
warm-ups for Monday’s scrimmage
against Mt Hood Community College.
Broken or sprained, Campbell is not
likely to see any action at the
NWAACC tournament. If he does
play, he will not be 100% and it will be
hard for him to put up the numbers
that earned him a MVPaward.
This is not the first time the Cou
gars had to play without Campbell. The
college had not cleared Campbell’s
transcripts in time for the first tourna
ment of the year. In that situation,
Michael Kuebler played the point
guard position.
Cliff Wegner, head coach, says he
will again have Kuebler fill in at the
point guard position. However,
Kuebler has not played that position
much in the second half of the season
so the Cougars continue to face more

challenges on their way to the
NWAACC tournament.
The first round, Clackamas is set to
play Columbia Basin from the Eastern
Division tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. The
Cougars are favored to beat the 15and
13 Columbia Basin team and should
win even without Campbell. YourCou-
gars will be playing in the NWAACC
tournament March 8-11 at Shoreline
Community College in Seattle. For in

Clackamas will be playing, check out

Hopefully, Portland just hopefuls say? If the Blazers win it
snatched him up so the Lakers all (and I don’t think they will) then
couldn’t get him. After the season,
it will be because Mike Dunleavy
will tighten the rotation during the
playoffs and only play seven or
eight players at the most. It won’t
matter if he has the deepest bench
in all of the NBA. Also, Wallace
will have dominated every game
and he’ll have to find a way not to
get ejected.
Historically, the teams that win
in the NBA Finals, with the ex
ception of the Chicago Bulls, are
teams that have a dominant cen
ter and shooting guard. The
Blazers have neither. The Lakers
have both and the Sixers have the
best guard center combo in the
East with the acquisition of
Mutombo.
Will Rod Strickland be the key
to the Blazers run for the title? I
doubt it. Who will be the 2001 NBA
champion? Honestly, I have no
idea. The records are so close in
the West and it’s either the Knicks
or Sixers in the East. This is the
reason I do not bet on sports!
