The Cougar women’s basketball
team played two very different
styles of games this week.
Wednesday’s
game
at
Chemeketa was a relatively low
scoring, defensive game. Neither
team scored above 70, even with
overtime.
At the end of the first half, the
Cougars were up by two. But the
Storm came back to tie the game at
the end of regulation, sending it
into overtime. At the beginning of
OT, it was anybody’s game. But at
the end, it belonged to Chemeketa
66-63.
“We had a chance to win,” said
Head Coach Jim Martineau.
Not that they didn’t try.
Mercedes Juarez had 33 big points,
and Jennie Kooch controlled the
backboards, grabbing 14 re
bounds.
After that heartbreaking OT loss,
the Cougars played on Saturday
at Linn-Benton. While the
Chemeketa game was low scoring,
the Linn-Benton game was ALL
scoring.
“This was probably our best
shooting game,” commented
Martineau.
With a team shooting 62 percent,
it was hard for Linn-Benton to keep
up. After four quarters of excellent
shooting, it’s no surprise that
Clackamas won by 14, with a final
score of100-86.
Kathryn Kettles was the leading
scorer, with 25 points. She also had
6 rebounds and 5 assists. Kayla
Steen finished with 23 points and 6
assists. Mercedes Juarez finished
with 18 points, and Amanda Lee had
7 rebounds to go with her 16 points.
The Cougars are now 4-2 in
league games. This week both
games are at home. Wednesday
they play Portland Community Col
lege and on Saturday they play Lane.
Games begin at 6 p.m.
