Chartwells hires new food service director

The new face in the cafeteria
is that of Tom Peddecord, a
graduate of Portland’s Western
Culinary Institute, and the new
kitchen supervisor, who said he
plans a few changes to make the
cafeteria even better.
“Everyone who works here is
working on a common goal,” said
Peddecord. He explained the en
tire staff is determined to make
the cafeteria a comfortable and
appealing restaurant, with sea
sonal decorating, enhanced food
quality and greater menu variety.
“This is a good opportunity to
get experience in a facet of the
food industry that I haven’t been
exposed to,” said Peddecord,
who combined his schooling at
the Institute with a two-month in
ternship at a Michelin Star res
taurant in Scotland.

Controversy: 'We need to put the student back in student government'
Continued from page 1
done wrong, I think it is up to
students to impeach and remove
her,” continued Darris. “That’s
why we have the process there.
It’s a student government and 1
think we need to put the student
back in student government, in
my humble opinion. Students
should be in control of it, in
volved in it and we should teach
you guys to be citizens and ac
tively engaged. It’s your gov
ernment. Learn to govern your
selves. I think educational insti
tutions, including mejishould
stay out of it because I’m not a
student. It’s not my government.
I think it’s your job as students
to determine whether or not
she’s doing the job.”
When asked if the removal of
an elected officer should be
dealt with by the students
themselves and not the admin
istration, Connett’s reply was
candid.
“I would need more discus
sion of that because I don’t un
derstand the rationale. I guess
my first question would be,
what does the administration
do with the complaints it re
ceives? Does that mean that the
administration can get com
plaints about an officer and not
do anything? It seems like it
really says that there’s no
course of action (by the col
lege) when it’s an elected of
ficer.”
At press time yesterday, the
date for Rankin’s hearing had not
been scheduled.
