A track team usually has to have a
phenomenal day to win a league cham
pionship.
It usually has to break barriers.
It usually has to rewrite the record books.
Usually.
For the Clackamas track and field
team, it was an unusual day.
The Cougars competed in the 1998
Northwest Athletic Association of
Community Colleges [NWAACC]
championships in Spokane, Wash, two
weeks ago.
Clackamas entered the meet with the
strongest squad of sprinters in the
t I
northwest.
Spokane, however, combatted that
by having the strongest squad of dis
tance runners in the northwest.
The host Sasquatch won the two-
day-long event —defeating the second
place Cougars in the men's division by
30 points and runner up Lane in the
women's division by 96 points. Clacka
mas finished fifth in the women's com
petition.
Ricardo Colon was the meet's total
points winner with a second-place fin
ish in the 100m, a third-place finish in
the 200m, second in the long jump and
also competed in short relay teams
which placed second and third.
"Ricardo had just an awesome
meet," said Clackamas Head Coach
Jack Kegg. "It's very rare that you have
the athlete that wins the most points in
the meet and still not win the meet."
Colon now holds the school record in
the long jump with his mark of 24' 1/2".
David Lemen won his second title
of the year in the pole vault.
His mark of 16' 6" puts him at #2 on
the school's all-time list and also gives
him the freshman record.
Lemen won the NWAACC Decath
lon last month.
Heath Fisher captured the javelin title
with a throw of 204' 1" which puts him
at #3 on the Clackamas all-time list.
Dante Betha closed out his Clacka
mas career with a second-place finish
in the 200m in 21.56. The mark moved
him into the #2 spot on the all-time list.
Keenan Coleman recorded a per
sonal best in the triple jump with a leap
of 47' 3'V1 This mar-k-moved him into
#4 in the school's record books.
Colon, Phil Elie, Robin Peters and
Betha placed second in the 4x 100 with
a time of 41.23. That time gave the re
lay team the school record.
On the women's side of competition,
Kevin Philbrook finished fourth in the pole vault
with a mark of 15' 6".
Jennifer Rea finished Second in the 10K
with a time of 39:31.
Freshman All-American David Lemen won the NWAACC pole
vault title two weeks ago. The victory was the second straight
pole vaulting title for Clackamas.
Jon'L Day high jumped her way to
second place with a leap of 5' 1 3/4".
Jennifer Gardener threw the javelin

Tristan Sharp finished second with a

The WWF is left with Stone Cold
Steve Austin and the Undertaker.
The loss of its stars left owner Vince
McMahon reeling for entertainment ideas.
So, what does he do? He throws him
self in the mix.
Tell me, why in the world of staged
wrestling, would anyone care to watch
a wrestler feud with its owner.

You’ve got losers like Hogan and the

Thesq are all products of what I like
The fans are split because the Vvrestlers
are split They are not split down the middle,
Giant against the “good guys” of Sting and
to call the "now-defunct WWF."
In the 1980's, the WWF was really
the only federation to watch. The
WCW took the backseat to its rival
however, like they were years ago.
Wrestlers change teams almost
weekly. Tag teams are split.
All of this leaves the spectator lick
league.
Today, however, is a different story.
If you've watched wrestling earlier
ing their lips for more..
In the era of Jerry Springer and
South Park, fans want to see trash t.v.
Who better to symbolize that trash

I mean.

than the Macho Man himself?
"Ooooooo! Yeeeaaaaahhhh!!!"
Lex Luger and the rest of their little crew.
What’s the point of having an organiza
tion inside an organization? It’s stupid!
Sure, the WWF isn’t a lot better, but at
least it’s entertaining and usually even
funny. You can’t beat the “rattlesnake”,
“Stone Cold” Steve Austin. This guy just
doesn’t give a crap what anybody thinks.
feud between Austin and Vince McMahon,
the owner of the WWF. McMahon can’t
stand the fact that Austin is running his or
ganization so he does whatever he can to
strip Austin of the WWF title. Every time
McMahon comes up with a plan, it back
fires and Austin comes out on top, usually
by giving the “Stone Cold Stunner” to who
ever gets in his way.
Obviously, everything that goes on in the
WWF and WCW is planned and it’s all
fake. Most of the wrestlers are in great
shape and they must be to execute all these
moves, but you can usually guess what’s
going to happen. In almost every match,
the decision is based on someone interfer
ing with the match. This gets really old but
it adds to the excitement for the fans at the
arena. That’s what it’s all about, selling tick
ets and getting the ratings on television.
What it comes down to is which is more
exciting and entertaining. As far ?s I’m
concerned, there is no comparison. If you
feel differently about it, well, then in the
words of the WWF’s Degeneration X:
He does things when he wants to, he says
whatever he wants, and there’s nothing
