Throughout the two-day longmeet held at Mt.
Hood Community College, Clackamas had a
number of athletes record strong marks.
"It's hard to identify any particular athlete,"
noted Kegg. "We had so many competitors that
had strong meets."
Dante Bctha captured titles in the 200m and

Softball: Cougars can't catch breaks in tough season

wc played five innings."
Clackamas was faced with a loser-out game earlier in the day
against Centralia.
In a rollercoaster ride that saw three lead changes, Clackamas
won a thrilling game 13-7.
Comstock started on the mound and was successful holding the
Trailblazers to only one run through four innings. .
Meanwhile, Clackamas jumped all over Centralia early.
Williams led off the game with a triple. Smith then hit a deep fly
ball for a sacrifice fly that scored the freshman catcher.
Centralia then scored one run in the top of the fourth to tic the
contest.
In the Cougars' half of the inning, Clackamas unleashed for five
runs while Williams hit her second triple of the day.
Centralia then rebounded with two runs in the fifth to make the
score 6-3.
After failing to score in the bottom of the fifth, Clackamas saw
Centralia take the lead 7-6 on two triples, a double and a number
of Gelding errors made by the Cougars.
Coach Nasuta relieved Comstock in the
inning with Smythe.
In the bottom of the inning, Clackamas
exploded for seven runs on a string of extra
base hits.
Sophomore shortstop Lisa Hosford started
things off with a double that scored two runs.
Smith followed with an RBI triple. Cecily
Burton then hit an RBI double to score Smith
and then sophomore third baseman Dani
Soldani hit a an RBI triple.
"That was pretty amazing to see," noted
Nasuta. "A double, triple, double, triple has
got to be pretty rare."
The victory eliminated Centralia from the
playoffs and sent the Cougars' against the
Saints in the afternoon game.
"This was a great game to coach and
a great game for the fans," noted
Technology next fall. Two of Soldani's teammates last
year, Robin Viol and Joell Whitton play for the south
ern Oregon school.
"As far as the returning freshmen," noted Nasuta. "A
number of the players are undecided on whether they
will return. Some have shown interest in playing at an
other school while others are getting burned out and are
thinking about not playing at all."
Despite the Cougars' full lineup of talented players,
Clackamas never seemed to play at top form for a con
sistent period of time.
"We talked about it all year," said Nausta. "We
just couldn't catch any breaks all year.. I talked
with Paul [Fiskum, Clackamas head coach on a
one-year sabbatical] and he said the same thing.

didn't go our way. This year, we didn't catch any
of those breaks that we did last year. It just wasn't in the
cards for us this season."
