Clackamas is hosting this term's
racquetball tournament at the
Eastside Athletic Club (off
McLoughlin
Boulevard
Milwaukie).
All Clackamas students, faculty
and staff are welcome. Chemeketa
and Mt. Hood will also participate
in the tournament.
There is a cost for entering.
"People should participate if they
want to have fun and meet new
friends," said Racquetball Coach
Kathie Woods.

"Floating down Oregon's Rivers
is a great way to experience
Oregon's natural and scenic
beauty," reads the Environmental
Learning Center's Reflections news
letter.
The ELC offers rafting trips each
spring. The three remaining trips
cost $65 and are down the
Deschutes River.
Each trip includes a lecture on
’ white water safety, rafting equip
ment, and local plants, birds and
geology.
Equipment is provided, but
wetsuits are recommended. Map
and location information will be
provided during registration.

Travis Armstrong defended his
1996 NWAACC title in the 1500-
meter run with a time of 3:59.06. He
held the best time in the event for the
season.
In the 5000-meter run, Armstrong
placed third with a time of 15:34.87.
Dante Betha placed first in the
200-meter dash with a time of 22.17.
Heath Fisher placed second in the
javelin with a distance of 198’03”, a
personal record. Fisher competed
with a sore elbow.
Scott Hein placed fourth in the jav
elin with a distance of 185’ 11 ”.
In the 3000-meter steeplechase,
Jeromy Benson placed third with a
time of 9:35.47, a personal record by
13 seconds. Jay Hawkey placed
tenth at 10:31.62 and Goin placed
eleventh with a time of 10:49.31.
In the shot put Shawn Davis placed
sixth with a distance of 43’10”.
Aaron Stacey placed seventh with a
distance of 43’02.25”.
In the 400-meter relay the Clacka
mas team — Eli Townsend, Mark
Gibson, Chad McIntyre and Betha -
- placed fifth with a time of 42.97.

Women's results for Friday
In the 1500-meter run Kendal
White was carried off the track with
cramps in her hamstring.
White came back and placed sec
ond in the 800-meter run with a time
of 2:20.42.
“It showed a lot of courage to do
so well in the 800,” said Hodges.
Lareina Cota placed third in the
100-meter dash with a time of 12.94.
In the preliminaries, Cota tied for
number eight on the Clackamas all-
time list with a time of 12.79.
Jennifer Rea placed third in the
5000-meter run with a time of
18:28.17. Just behind her was
Rebecca Graham with 18:30.84. In
fifth place was Simantel with a time
of 19:32.36. All three times were
personal records for the women.
The women's 400-meter relay team
— Michelle Wimberley, Amanda Bra
dley, Cota and Brown — finished
fourth with a time of 49.82. Their
time moved them up to number five
on the all-time list at Clackamas.
Clackamas’1600-meter relay team
— Wimberley, Cota, Brown and
White — placed fifth with a time of
4:10.95.
In the 1500-meter run, Jenny
Newell placed ninth With a time of
5:24.3.
“They [both teams] really com
peted. They were truly warriors, and
I’m proud of them,” concluded
Hodges.

Mishe Simantel, Jennifer Rea and
Rebecca Graham combined for 44 of
the 80 total women’s points.
In the 10,000-meter run Simantel
placed first with 39:17.32. Before
Thursday Simantel’s best time was
41:05. Her new time put her fifth on
Clackamas' all time list. Just behind
her was Rea with a time of 39:37.97.
“That was certainly one of the
events that was very special,” added
Hodges.
Jaimee Brown placed second in the
high jump with a height of 5'. Brown
held the best qualifying distance go
ing into the meet.
In the javelin, Tristan Sharp placed
first with a distance of 139’10”, a
season's best. She was NWAACC
leader in the javelin coming into the
meet.
In the shot put, Kristi Chamberlen
placed third with a distance of
40’11.5”. 1
And Graham placed third in the
3000-meter run with a time of 10:35.

The men's track team finished third in the NWAACC championships with 104
points, just behind the Community Colleges of Spokane (143 points). "The men
scored in every event we entered in except one," said Coach Mike Hodges.
