Track team succeeds in Spokane

The Clackamas Community
College Men’s and Women’s
Track Team competed in their
own open track meet at
Clackamas last Saturday.
The Clackamas Community
College Open track meet included
several Northwest community
colleges. Returning from compet
ition in the Northwest Athletic
Association of Community Col
leges (NWAACC) Heptathlon/
Decathlon
was
Melissa
Abramson. Abramson finished
fourth in the women’s heptathlon
with a score of 3799; an improve
ment on her personal record by
206 points.
The NWAACC Heptathlon/
Decathlon was held at Spokane
Community College in Washing
ton. Abramson’s score ranks
fourth on the school’s all-time
record for the event.
After the Clackamas Com
munity CollegeOpen last Satur
day the Cougars had a total of 69
qualifying marks for the
NWAACC Championships held
in late May. The 12 athletes on
the women’s team achieved a to
tal of 29 qualifying marks. The
27 athletes on the men’s team
gained 40.
“We competed well and had
a number of fine performances.
We moved some people around in
the running events. But, that’s
what you have to do at the cham
pionship level,” said Clackamas
Head Track Coach Mike Hodges.
“The highlight of the meet was
the performance of our throwers.”
Some top performances at the
Clackamas Open came from the
women’s team. Erica Sloan won
the women’s hammer throw and
obliterated her previous school
record by 19 feet 7 inches.
Sloan’s distance of 157’ 8” was
