The Clackamas Print Page 6 Wednesday, April 12,1995 SPORTS Strong performances at plate by Vermillion, Mann lead Clackamas to win over SWOCC by Anjanette Booth News Editor Jason Mann and Tyson Vermillion helped the Clackamas Community College baseball team to an 8-3 victory last Tuesday against Southwestern Oregon Community College. The highlight of the game was when Mann smashed in a home run. Vermillion also had a success ful game, hitting a double, a triple and batting in 4 RBI’s. “We are playing well at times, but we are not playing consistent,” said Head Baseball Coach Robby Robinson. Unfortunately, this inconsis tency showed in the April 5 game against Lower Columbia with an 8-2 loss. “We’re hitting the ball well. “The key to winning is timely hitting. You have to have the hits at the right time,” Robinson said. Robinson explained that timely hitting is being able to hit the ball when there are runners on the bases. The team is getting the runners on the bases, but still needs a little help getting them home. “Pitching-wise, we need to show improvement on the mound,” Robinson said. “We are playing good defense and running the bases OK.” Top hitters for Clackamas this season include Tyson Vermillion with a .594 batting average and 10 stolen bases in 10 games, Steve Geiszler with a .440 batting aver age and Ryan Moore with a .321 batting average.
