I have some news that
might be helpful to people dis
abled or non-disabled alike on
the campus. In my last article, I
wroteabout the lack of accessible
lavatories around the campus.
Not long after the article was
printed, I was asked to attend a
meeting to discuss the topic in
detail.
During the meeting, I met
with three people. One of them
was Carol Patterson. She is the
Associate Dean of Plant Ser
vices. Patterson is in charge of
making sure the elevators are
running smoothly, designing the
buildings to meet accessibility
needs and much more.
After the meeting,
Patterson asked me to demon
strate the accessibility of the
women’s lavatory on the second
floor of the McLoughlin Build
ing. As I suspected, I finally was
able to squeeze my power chair
into the stall after a couple min
utes of magnificent maneuver
ing.
Patterson was glad to have
the opportunity to witness the
difficulty I had, and is now mak
ing plans to rearrange the
restrooms that are similar to the
restroom in McLoughlin. It is
nice to know that there are
people like Patterson who are
very interested in the accessibil
ity of the college.
If you ever have any prob
lems getting around the campus,
dealing with ah on-going issue
that you can’t get solved, or have
suggestions, please go and talk
to Patterson. She is very help
ful and easy to converse with.

door to the journalism room in
