Unlike most competitive sports, all duals and tournaments in wrestling are considered practices until the end of the year. “Alotofthe kids worked on getting away from their bad habits,” Huluska said about wrestlers using the tournament as a learning experience. The Take Down Tourna ment was held as a fund-raising event to send Cougar wrestlers to Regionals and Nationals. The wrestling team is the only athletic team at Clackamas that is able to participate in Nation als. “Goals are set for placing high at the National tournament,” Huluska said. All the wrestlers did their part to make the Take Down Tourna ment run smoothly. Many wrestlers helped with running clocks and ref ereeing when they were not compet ing. The Cougars will have a dual meet against Pacific Lutheran College today in Tacoma. They will also participate in the Yakima Val ley open tournament on Saturday. Former Cougar bas ketball player David Daniels has furthered his basketball experience. Daniels, who graduatedfrom Clackamas two years ago, and then went on to Colorado Christian College for two more years, had a try-out with the Denver Nuggets of the National Basketball Asso ciation. He made it to the final cut and then was let go. Fortunately, the Continental Basketball Association, a smaller league which has had several members make it to the NBA, came calling. The team from Rochester, Minn., “jumped” at the chance to sign him. While at Clackamas, he was a two-time All-Leaguer. In Colorado, he led his team to the championship his senior year and was rewarded as the league ’ s Mos t Valu able Play er. He was also named an All- American basketball player. iÇCCïStudent e. '' ' by Nate Clark Staff Writer The Clackamas women’s basketball coach, Karen Twain, has an optimistic view of the upcoming season. She thinks the Lady Cougars will do well due to hard work and enthusiasm. “They are a good group of players and I think we have the right combo to go far,” Twain said. The Cougars have three returning sophomores and nine fresh man, but, as Twain states, “they were all stars on their high school teams.” Sophomores TeresaOlsen, Janell Temple, and Kristie Preiskom provide this young team with leader ship. “Olsen (guard) is,’if not the best, one of the bestin the league,” Twain said. “She worked hard on improving her quickness during the summer and she can go to the hoop on anybody.” Temple (guard) is one of the team leaders. Twain points out her smart ball-handling and good shooting will be keys to the team’s success. Preiskom (guard-post) is a great defensive player who is very fast, intense and has “extreme de sire,” according to coach Twain. * This is Twain’s and assis tant coach Liz Gilluck’s first year at Clackamas. Twain coached at Tualatin High School last year and Gilluck coached at Umatilla High. Twain said they can do a good job this year in a very competi tive league, with top competition coming from Mt. Hood and Chemeketa. Their chances are good i J (Nd purchase n^sasarÿ. Not valid with any other coupon.).
