Campus security investigates locker room thefts Cffgtä; Ricans
by Staci Smith
Staff Writer
Four thefts have been reported
in the last two weeks. They all
took place in the women ’s locker
room.
Jim Wiseman, of the Public
Safety Division stated,’Tt boils
down to the college trying to
effectively communicate to stu
dents and staff that you can’t
bring valuables into an open
campus environment”
The Public Safety Division
has come up with three ways to
help pre ven tan y further thefts: to
examine the lockers in the
women’s locker room, to'encour-
age the women to lock their lock
ers and to post a sign stating
‘THEFT OF VALUABLES CAN
BE A PROBLEM.” They hope
by taking these measures it will
greatly reduce thé possibility of
further thefts.
Public Safety also has tips for
staff and faculty. They would
like the staff to remember to lock
their office doors and to not leave
the offices available for student
storage of books or bags.
The thefts are currently under
investigation and although they
don’t have any suspects, Public
Safety is under the impression
that all thefts were committed by
the same person.
To help Public Safety solve
crimes they need the students and
staff to report the incidents as
soon as possible. The longer a
person waits the more time a crimi
nal has to flee a crime scene, and
the less clear a victims memory
will be.
“Keep your eyes open,”
warned Wiseman. “No one is
going to watch out for you, un
less you watch out for yourself.”
The most likely items to be sto
len include: stereos, jewelry and
cash. These items should either
be locked up or left at home.
The investigation will con
tinue but Wiseman reminds us,
“There are mortals among us,
people whose values may differ
from yours. If given the chance
they may, even though they don’t
seem to you like the type of per
son who would, steal from you.”
ASG senator selection process begins
by Nicole Turley
Staff Writer
In the last week you may
have seen a number of colored
flyers being distributed by Asso
ciated Student Government
members, encouraging students
to, “Get involved,” and apply for
one of the ten ASG senator posi
tions.
Applications were due on Oct
12. The individuals selected from
the applicants will attend meet
ings every Monday from 3 p.m.
to 5 p.m. and a retreat from Oct.
16-18.
The new senators will serve
as representatives of the five of
ficers: vice president, legislative
director, executive director, en-
tertainment coordinator and pro
motion coordinator. Other duties
of ASG senators include: serving
on committees, helping with the
budget and planning activities.
Vice President Shauna Bar
nett, who was an ASG senator
last year said, “Being a senator in
ASG is a good opportunity to
meet people and to get informa
tion about how the school runs.”
There are a number of tan
gible benefits for those who are
selected to be ASG Senators.
Besides the 1/2 tuition waiver
received by each of the senators,
they will gain experience in
working with their peers and
insight into the workings of the
school.

The Oct. 12 deadline for ap
plications can be wavered ac
cording ASG President Amy
Gaskell, “If you’re just dying to
get in, come to the activities of
fice and talk to an ASG officer,
but we can’t make any promises
at this time.”
For those who do not have
the time to commit to a senator

sit your ASG officers down and
