“Even though it doesn’t di
rectly affect me, I feel there needs
to be a check on countries who
wrongly overrun weaker nations
for their own profit or gain.”
Daron Gildow, Student
“No it doesn’t directly affect
me but I do support what our
president is doing right now.”
Tony Franklin, ASG President
“It doesn’t directly affect me
but if we do go to war, do it fast,
quickly, and decisively.”
Wallace Johnson, Instructor
“I have a pan-Arab view, and
I think it will all pan out in the
end.”
“I’m in the National Guard wait
ing to see if I’m going to be acti
vated. I didn’t join to baby-sit an
oil-field.”
Greg Baty
Japanese Major
“The Persian Gulf is an example
of how dependent this country is
to oil. Is there any difference of
Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait and the
United States’ “liberation” of
Panama? This military action is
costing the U.S. $17 million every
day and the cost of higher gas
prices. It is wrong.”
Chris Wirtanen
Architecture
“I feel the conflict is about a na
tion taking over another nation,
only partially about the oil. I be
lieve this is how Hitler started
out. Who knows? It does affect
me because if we go to war, I could
be drafted or asked to go over, as
well as my friends. I already have
one friend over there now and
that is too many.
Aaron Coy
Electrical Engineering
“My feelings are, for the benefit
of the world, Saddam Hussein must
be stopped, lest he may continue
and gain confidence-through the
lack of action by the West. That
was the case with Adolph Hitler,
and history can tell us what those
results were.
Yes, this affects me directly as
it does every human being on this
planet. Aworld war starting from
a radical such as Saddam Hussein
could be devastating world wide."
Daniel Frank
Journalism Major
Cheryl Fendali, Student
“I don’t agree with war. I guess
the only way it affects me is that
my best friend’s boy friend is over
there. I don’t think we should go,
but in a way I can see why we need
to.”
Karen Herbeck, Student
“War for oil is an abomina
tion. It goes against every fiber of
my being. After Vietnam, I'was
sure there would never be another
war, but this war makes me realize
man will never stop killing for
material gain.”

“I think the cause is good, and
the U.S. should stand up to Sad
dam.
It will not affect myself directly,
however I do have some friends in
the service over there.
If Saddam is not stopped in
Kuwait, where will he be?”
Mike Paulson
Computer Science Major
Ryan Griffiths, Student
“I think something has to be
done. I don’t think war is the right
thing to do but something defi- *
nitely has to be done, and yes it
does affect me directly because
I’m going to be in the Navy.”
“I am disturbed that Congress
has not been an active voice and
used the “War Powers Act” to
check Mr. Bush. I hate killing!
I have two sons of draftable age.
I absolutely do not feel their lives
should be jeopardized on account
of oil, should the draft come into
effect.”

Greg Grace, Student
“It directly affects me because
I’m going to have to go over there,
but they sjjpuldn’t re-instate the
draft.”
‘The Persian Gulf situation both
ers me. We shouldn’t be threat
ening them with war. We saw how
effective this method worked in
Viet Nam. The United Nations
should be employing economic
sanctions and not violence.”
Doug Duvall
English Major
“I feel that if we go to war we
should try to get it over with as
soon as possible. We can’t let this
guy just go and take over whatever
country he wants to. Who’s to say
he will stop with Kawait.
Keri Jones

Michelle Lindsay, Student
“Yes, It affects me because I
have friends over there and it is
causing so many problems in the
world.”
Joe Orick, Student
“It afreets me because I am a
prior military. If it gets out of hand,
I’ll probably have to go back in
and serve more time. I’m suppor
tive of it. I think that it should
have been done a longtime ago. If
it had been Reagan, it would have
been done a long time ago.”
Erin Jacobson, Student
“I think that war is inevitable
and we have to fight. Saddam
Hussein doesn’t want to cooper
ate, so we have to fight. War is a
terrible experience butlthinkitis
necessary at times to use force.”
Jason Davison, Student
“Half the younger people over
there have the attitude that ‘war is
great’ and those younger people
don’t know what war is, and they
don’t know how serious war is and
how it hurts people.”
