Branderhorst finished 8th. by Aaron Brown Sports Editor The Clackamas Cross Coun try team turned in another great performance Saturday at the Wil lamette Invitational, as both teams finished second among the community colleges competing. “We did very well,” summed up Coach Hodges. Yet against the overall competition, both teams finished in the middle of the pack. Hodges commented that there were some strong teams from as far away as Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, Can ada, who placed third overall behind Nike Portland and Hum boldt State. The men’s side continued to improve upon their performance of last week and placed with a closer time deferential than at the home meet last week. “Once again, we finished well ahead of the other community colleges,” commented Hodges. “It was the best overall perform ance together as a team.” Gene Branderhorst once again was the first one on the team to cross the finish line. He placed 8th overall with a time of 25:33. Freshman Billy Borkus finished next at 12th, and clocked 26:06. Mike Paulson completed the 8k run 21st at 26:31, Nathan Matlock was 24th at 26:52, and Tim Marshall "/f was the best over all performance to gether as a team." - Coach Hodges wound up in 27th with a time of 27:28. The women finished ex tremely well, placing 9th over all, and 2nd among community colleges, but were outdistanced by Pacific Lutheran and Univer sity of Oregon who were the top team finishers. “The girls also had their best time as a team,” reflected Coach Hodges. Not only did they have their best time, but also whipped a few four year institutions, namely Wil lamette, Southern Oregon, West ern Oregon, Eastern Oregon, and Lewis & Clark. The individual results show just how strong the team is. Last week, only Roni Del Sol finished under 20 minutes. At the Willam ette Invitational, three clocked under the 20 minute mark. Del Sol (finished 9th), who continued her success and seems to be mounting a streak of under 20 minute finishes, concluded the race with 19:30. Stephanie Rosen (12) finished at 19:58, Kristy Morgan (13th) with 20:08, Sonia Schmu- land (16th) at 20:48, and Dianna Pollack (17th) concluded the team with 21:04. Both teams are on the right track to repeat as State Champi ons, according to Hodges. Hodges hopes the team will continue its success this Saturday at Eastern Oregon Invitational in LaGrande.
