Richard Marx Staff Writer April 26-29 was the annul biology trip to the Malheur Ni tional Wildlife Refuge. Coi ducted by biology and botan instructor Bob Misley, the pui ppse of this trip was to obscn birds, geological formations, an native plants. “The birds observed wei mostly water-fowl and shoi birds,” said Misley, “includii egrets, great blue herons, sandhi cranes, Canada geese and mat different species of ducks.” Shore birds are the wadiq snipe-type birds, usually cha rat terized by long thin bills. The were represented by such kind as willets, avocets, sandpiper and dowitchers. “Besides these, we also sa yellow-headed and redwing blac birds, as well as such songbin as warblers. Among several typi of seagulls, we saw the Frar klin’s gull, which is distinct t it’s black head.” Most of these birds wer observed at the marshes whei they feed and nest.
