bench for the Cougars this season.
Pember, Lindland
receive "AOM" honors
The Clackamas Print’s "Ath
letes of The Month" for January
ar womens’ basketball player Pam
Pember, and wrestler Matt Lind
land.
Pember has been miss con
sisten tent for the lady Cougars
this season. In 21 games, she has
scored 317 points, an average Of
15 per game. She has also been
tough on the boards, pulling down
190 rebounds, an average of nine
per game.
"The thing with Pam is that
she’s been really consistent all
year," commented Coach Phil
Garver.
Lindland has been consis
tant during the month of Janu
ary starting with the Glencoe
Open and a third place finish.
At the Oregon Classic Lindland
was the only Cougar to place
taking sixth. Lindland finished
the month’s tournaments with
second place finishes at Pacific
Lutheran Open and the CCC
Invitational.
Besides these victories he
also attained dual meet wins.
A late notice to those picked
as November Athletes of the
Month Tim Beardall and Angie
Wright. There accomplishments
during the Cross Country Region-
als made them easy choices.
Beardall took the men’s cham
pionship while Wright took
fourth in the women’s event

A lot of people may not be
aware of it, but Clackamas Com
munity College has a bowling team.
The team has tournaments
on Thursdays at a different Ore
gon college every week. The re
maining colleges in the league are
Portland Community College,
Oregon State, University of Ore
gon, and CCC
“Many schools are having
problems fielding teams. The main
reason being the teams are not
publicized well enough,” explained
Coach Mick McMahon. “Someof
these bowlers never even find out
there is a bowling team.”
He hopes that in the near
future bowling will become a
campus-recognized sport like it
was in the 1960s, just like basket
ball and baseball. The teams will
then have more of a turn out and
bowling will make a come back in
Oregon, as it has in California.
Right now the CCC Bowling
team, in its fourth year, is gearing
up to go to Pocatello, Idaho to
ward the end of February.
The four members will be going to
the Association of College Un
ions tournament from Feb. 22-24.
Since there is no funding from
the colleges the bowlers usually
have to pay their own fees and
transportation. In the case of Idaho,
all fees, including lodging have
been paid. “Student Activities has
helped the team tremendously,”
said Coach McMahon.
Don Thompson, Frank Jor
dan, Blaine Weninger, and Dar-
ryn Kuehl are the four Coach
McMahon will be taking to the
tournament. A full team really
consists of five people, but the
fifth bowler transferred to a uni
versity at the beginning of Winter
Women win two, back in first place
by Robert Stubblefield

The Women Cougars posted
a pair of convincing victories last
week and repositioned themselves
at the top of the league. Clacka
mas traveled to Eugene Saturday
and face Lane Community Col
lege in a battle for first place. The
Cougars came out storming and
demolished Lane 92-68.
“We were in a game we had to
win and the girls really rose to the
occasion,” Coach Phil Garver
commented.
Angela Hewlett and Alicia
Stephenson both scored 20 points
to pace the Cougars. Pam Pember
turned in another strong effort
with 18 points and 13 rebounds.
Hewlett and Kelli Brown com
bined for 15 assists from the
backcourt.
Jean-Marie Lilliard came out
from the bench on fire and con
tributed 12 points and seven re
bounds. The win boosted the
Cougars’ record to 12-1 overall
and 9-1 in league play.
On Wednesday, Jan. 31, the
Cougars returned home to Ran
dall Gym still smarting from their
first loss at Linn-Benton. The team
was on a mission to prove the loss
a fluke, and the PCC Panthers had
the misfortune to be the oppo
nent. The Cougs hit them early,

hard, and often in running away to
a 95-52 win. Angela Hewlett knifed
through the Panther defense for a
season-high 39 points. Stephen
son dominated the middle and
pulled down 13 rebounds. Brown
dished out 11 assists and played
and excellent floor game.
“It’s PCC’s first year in the
league with a women’s program,”
Coach Garver said. “They only
had six players, but thé put up a
gutsy effort.”
Clackamas decided the issue
early, and the players off the bench
were the recipients of some good
minutes. Hie Cougars face Mt.
Hood Wednesday at 6 p.m. in their
own Randall Gym.

term. The team has been looking
for someone to fill his spot. Ac
cording to Coach McMahon, they
are also looking for extra people
to join the team, so if someone
cannot play for some reason there
is another player to fill his spot.
lb qualify for the bowling team
a person must be enrolled in five
credit hours a term and maintain
a 2.0 GPA This includes men or
women. Right now there is not a
women’s team because there is
only one member and to have a
team there must be four.
“Members of the bowling team
have quite a bit of fun along with
the competition.” stated Coach
McMahon. “There is a chance to
travel, meet people and even
compete in tournaments to win
scholarships.” Anyone interested
in the team can contact Coach
McMahon at Canby Bowl 266-
9111 or Paul Kyllo at ext. 562.
