SPORTS THE CLACKAMAS PRINT Endurance and finesse ate two words that describe the sport of Rugby. Originating in the town of Rugby in England it is similar to both soccer and football. Consist ing of two forty minute halves with a two minute half time, and no substitutions, the game is fast paced and exciting. Fifteen players are needed to play the game. The point of the game is to move the ball down the field by passing it back and forth amongst the players until you reach the try- zone and score for your team. This is easier said than done. While you are trying not to make any for ward passes (these are illegal), the other team is trying to tackle Page 8 Harker, Moore selected as athletes of the month English sport lands at CCC By Rick Piller Staff Writer November 8,1989 you and take away the ball and Pete York, the club’s coach, said, also score. Borrelli Sports Editor Volleybailer Casie Harker and cross country runner Dusty Moore have be selected as The Clackamas Print athletes of the month for October. During the month of Octo ber Harker was simply awesome. In a recent contest with Linn- Benton, Harker had 20 kills and 20 digs. For her outstanding play she was chosen as The Region 4 volleyball Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 10-18. The Clackamas cross coun try team recently won another state championship; and a key to their success this season has been the performances of Dusty Moore. Moore finished fifth in the state meet for the Cougars, and has been a consistent strong finisher for the Cougars all sea son. “Dusty has been very con sistent for us this season. He’s been really running strong, and that really helped us at the state meet,” said Coach Mike Hodges. Rally looks to change image by Brenda Hodgcn Staff Writer “For now, wc need to decide on outfits for the team so we won’t be cheering naked,” said Rally Coach Shelly Burck. The Rally Squad has been selected and recently began prac tice for the up coming season. “Right now they’ll be con centrating on the cheer that they learned in tryouts and they have another cheer to learn before the season starts,” Burck explained. The squad consists of eight members: Lisa Weldon, Sheri Duclos, Teresa Ottolini, Cheryl Ellison, Brenda Hodgcn, also two junior members: Karie Burck and Aimec Burch. “We’re not going to have the quality team that will open the problems that we had last year,” crowd’s eyes and gain more public stressed Burck. “One member interest in rally. “There should have been about was involved in a fight, and others quit which caused several posi 60-75 people trying out for rally in tion changes that made the entire a college this size, instead we only had five applicants,” she said. season hectic.” Burck is looking forward to “People just don’t have the en working with the team to “change thusiasm for rally here.
