Blood drive comes close to meeting goal
by Margy Lynch
Staff Writer
The second most sucessful
blood drive at Clackamas Com
munity College in four years was
held Wednesday, Oct. 25 and was
sponsored by ASG.
The Red Cross collected 85
units of blood Wednesday - five
units short of ASG’s goal.
Although there were 106
people who attempted to give
blood, only 85 were accepted.
People were deferred for small
reasons like having cold sores or
not feeling well.
ASG had hoped for more
donors, but they werehappy with
the people who did give blood.
“Now we can improve future
blood drives,” said Ken Ingram,
assistant to the president, who
coordinated the blood drive. “We
will have a de-briefing meeting
this week,” said Ingram. . ’ .
The general feeling «in the
Community Center amongdonors
was a calm one. “It was easy,” said
Frank Jordan, who donated blood.
“It was my fourth time, and these
people know what they’re doing.
They all take very good care of
you,” Jordan added. Jordan feels
everyone should give blood be
cause “it doesn’t hurt you at all,
and it’s going to help a lot of
people.”
Brett earner also felt good
about giving blood. He said he
would have given blood anyway
because of the earthquake and the
hurricane.
“The fact that the drive was
here, and that it was so conven
ient, is why I donated today,” said
Garner; He also mentioned the
friendliness among the volunteers.
Camer and Jordan are both
students at Clackamas Commu
nity College.
ASG plans to have more blood
drives this year and they hope to
get more donors. This blood drive
was a success, however. The 85
units of blood collected will help
save many lives.
Assistant to the Registrar Sue
Manzella credits the increases to
more part-time students and the
“significant number of transfer
students.”
According to Manzella, the
transfer students are a result of
