Student Opinions
Are you aware of the Associated Student
Government elections? Are you going to vote?
Yes, I’m aware of the elections.
I’m not sure if I’m voting yet. I
have not been confronted or know
who any of the candidates are. It
depends if I find out about them
before election time.
Yes, I am aware of the elections.
I’m not voting because I feel I
have not been informed and edu
cated about the people up for
election.

Lytle equipped to
handle presidency
The current race for Associated Stu
dent Government President for the 1989-
90 school year is a race of specifics vs. gen
eralizations.
This was clear at the Candidate Forum
last Friday.
Garett Lytle and Stephen Rudometkin
both have their strengths and weaknesses.
However, Lytle seems more sincere in his
quest for the ASG presidency.
Throughout the majority of the cam
paign, Lytle’s response to inquiries as to
what he would do as president has been
more specific than Rudometkin’s responses.
Rudometkin has said little more than
that he would be searching for students’
opinions and requests. We have already
had one year of an executive officer whose
policy was exactly that. He has not been
clear on what he would do when he found
out what those opinions are.
The only time Rudometkin has dis
closed any specifics was during the Election
Forum when questions regarding the big
gest issue facing the president, the presi
dent’s most important duty, and the first
change he would make if elected.
The students can’t elect a president
who would go into the job unprepared. It
appears that Rudometkin would be doing
just that.
Lytle, on the other hand, has had prior
experience in working in conjunction with
ASG. He has stated several specific ideas
on specific issues which he would pursue if
elected. Lytle also has outstanding aca
demic stability. With a cumulative 3.93 grade
point average, it’s the kind of stability that
was lacking in some ASG officers this year.
This year ASG’s entertainment sec
tion struggled. Lytle, a theatre major, prom
ises to get quality entertainment from local
bands and providing a variety of artists that
should appeal to students and increase
student involvement, something both can
didates feel must be done.
Lytle is also interested in making sure
students attain good jobs after they gradu
ate from college. He also promises to be
available to students who need to consult
with him.
Rudometkin’s views on things such as
the smoking issue are simply not realistic.
Stating that "non-smokers who walk through
the smoking section shouldn’t complain" is
a personal view as a smoker, in contrast to
the candidate who says he will act on opin
ions from students.
Clackamas’ ASG needs someone who
will deal with specific issues on the minds
of students. The issues are obvious. The
choice for ASG president is obvious. Ga
rett Lytle.
