for police
exams
Robert Scotton from the Portland Police
Bureau was on campus Thursday, May 26,
to recruit applicants for the police exam
to be held July 25 to 29.
"We are interested in qualified females
and minorities, but there will be no pre
ference held over anyone else," said Scotton.
The testing being done will be written and
oral and 60 per cent will be used on the
written exam.
There is also a physical examination.
Applicants must be in good health and not
overweight.
One of the tests held last year included a
40-foot run up an inclined plane, then down
22 steps, back to the starting point to pick
up an Impound oxygen tank to carry back
up the inclined plane and the stairs, all in
36 seconds.
Th eke have been minimum standards in
the past but they have been changed to
allow for female candidates, said Scotton.
"The standards are still considerable and
there is an 18-month probationary period,"
said Scotton. "We are not here'because of
a shortage of good candidates, but because
we are looking for good applicants."
Applications can be picked up from July
|IKo 15 at the Portland Civil Service Office,
510 S.W. Montgomery Street.
