Clackamas, which placed second in the recent Mt. Hood relays, and second in a five­ way meet on Saturday, April 16, has several competitors close to qualifying marks for the National Junior College Athletic Asso­ ciation Championships in May. In the distance events Kelly Sullivan has recorded a 9:30 best in the 3000-meter steeplechase, only six-tenths of a second off the needed mark; Allan Knoop has done a 30:58 in the six-mile, while 30:30 is needed; and Don Brown's best of 4:25.3 in the mile is nine seconds off. Frank Gibson, a sophomore from Rex Putnam high school, cleared 6-6 in the high jump to match the qualifying mark in that event as Clackamas took second behind Southern Idaho in the five-team meet at Clackamas. Lynn Teuscher set a new school record Friday in the 120-yard high hurdles at the Mt. Hood Relays. Teuscher ran the race in 14.88 to beat by two-one-hundredth of a second the old mark set by Dale Bowman. In the meet at Coos Bay the Cougars should look tough and many individuals are looking to better their season's best marks to be able to compete in the NJCC Cham­ pionships upcoming in May.
