OPINIONS Writer bids farewell I have mixed feelings as I sit down to write this column. Today I must say good bye to all of my readers. For three years I have been offering advice, sounding off, and hashing over the problems of lifein my column. Now it. is time for me to move on and leave this space on the paper for some other aspiring young writer. .. Domestic Issues Tammy Swartzendruber I have many happy memories of my days hereat C.C.C.. Although I must admit, it does feel good to have this portion of my life behind me. Many of you haye told me how much you will miss reading my col umn. At those times I feel nostalgic about leaving. I appreciate all the reader support I have had here on campus. Hopefully this won’t be the last time you see my name in print. Someday you may just find my name on a copy of the best selling book of the year. (Dream on, Tammy) Seriously though, I do plan on getting a minor in English and continuing to write. Next year will find me at P.S.U. plugging away on a sociology degree. Maybe I’ll see some of you out there. Until then hang on. Work toward the fulfillment of your dreams and never give up. I know the way gets tough sometimes, but persevere and things will get better. I came here a single parent with an eighth gradeeducation. I leave herewith a G.E.D. and an Associate degree in Social Science. I am planning a fall wedding with the man of my dreams. My little girl was three years old when I started college. She is now a first grader and, believe it or not, she is already writing stories of her own. She’s always bugging me to send her stories to a publisher. Well, I don’t want to discourage her so we are currently working on a story to send to a Childrens’ magazine. She writes the story and I correct the spelling. Who knows? Maybe some day she will be writing won derful things. I must admit I am proud to see her love for writing. She’s a wonderful kid to say the least. No, my. way through college was not paved with gold, but I wouldn’t trade these last three years for anything. So long eve rybody and gqpd luck to you all! Compiled by Tara Powers and Jillian Porter “I’m going skiing in Bend for three days and then I’m going to debate over having all my friends over for a ten keg barbecue in my back yard.” - Shawn Hester “During Spring break I will proba bly be working, and this is going to be boring because I drive a fork lift and make deliveries for Walco County Store, on the same route every week.” -Pat Lilly “I’m going to Los Angeles and Palm Springs to hit the beach and party.” ‘Til be working at the northeast YMCA. It will be fun teaching kids and not having to worry about finals. It better be sunny and not snowing.” - Machelle Mason ‘This Springvacation Hl be work ing on my car and working at my “work.” I might even do some- thing enjoyable, but I’m not cer tain yet, so most likely this “sup posed” time off will be a real drag.” -Ron Gassaway “I’m going to Utah to ski and see mybestfirjends.” - Steven Betts - Makeba Shaughnessy
