Enraged bowlers
drop from league
Dan A. Fulton
Staff Writer
The Clackamas bowling team
voted to drop out of its league last
Tuesday after feeling cheated out
of first place.
On Nov. 12, the Oregon Col
legiate Bowl Conference held a
tournament at Cherry City Bowl
in Salem where all the teams in
the league would play a double
match. The first opponent for the
Cougars was Portland Commu
nity College. The men defeated
PCC 20 1/2 to 7 1/2 points, while
the women handled the PCC team,
28-0. The next opponent was Lower
Columbia College, who never
showed up to the tournament.
Since the match was a forfeit, Jim
Lebakken, a member of the Cou
gar team, left to go to work, leav
ing the men’s team with only four
players. The final score was 28-0
for both of the men and women
Cougars.

They made it to every

the year."
Rick McCorkle, the coach for
LCC, called Cougar coach Mick
McMahon to say that LCC never
received a schedule that showed
the dates of the games.
“I find it hard to believe that
they didn’t get their schedule. They
made it to every other match dur
ing the year,” said Coach McMa
hon.
Coach McCorkle asked
McMahon if he would reschedule
a match with LCC. McMahon said
no because the Cougar bowlers
had already shown up and paid for
their lanes. He felt they should
not have to take off work to go
back to Salem and pay for lanes
again. If LCC bowled by them
selves, it would still be unfair
because of different lane surfaces
and no one would be there to verify
the scores, McMahon believed.
