Dlackamas volleyball takes fifth in tournament
ment pitted Clackamas against
teams from four different divi
sions.
The Cougars got off to a hot
start on Friday, with an opening
win over Blue Mountain 15-12,
15-13. Clackamas then lost to
Clark 9-15,1-15, but rebounded
with back to back wins to keep
their hopes of a first place finish

victim Clackamas dealt a loss,
beating them 15-13, 15-11. Next

The Clackamas Cougars
volleyball team hosted the
Dross-Over tournament on Oct.
) and 10 in Randall Hall. This
sight team round robin tourna-
Shoreline 9-15, 6-15, forcing a
tie between Clackamas and
Shoreline for the number four
seed. Shoreline once again beat
the Cougars, 9-15, 8-15,
eliminating Clackamas from
tournament play with a fifth
place finish.
‘T was pleased with the way we
played Friday; we took a match
from a very good team,
(Highline)....we were able to
maintain our intensity, something
we haven’t been able to do,”
remarked Clackamas coach
Kathie Woods. Woods wishes she
Saturday’s play by the Cougars
was anything less than spec
tacular, but coach Woods did like
the efforts she saw of Margie
Sedam. “Margie came in, and
sparked the team Saturday, she
showed good leadership.”
Clackamas is 1-3 now in
league, and will close out the first
half of league play this weekend
when they hit the road for a pair
of games. Umpqua will be the
Cougars first stop Friday before
facing
league
power
Southwestern on Saturday Oct.
17.

Next up for Clackamas was a
very good team from Highline.
Clackamas won the first match,
but had to settle for a split,
when Highline came back to
win the next match 15-9.
After the first day of com
petition had ended, the Cougars
had amassed a very nice 7-3
record, and were right in the
picture going into play on
Saturday.
That’s when the roof caved in
on Clackamas. They opened the
day by losing to Mt. Hood 8-15,
3-15, followed by a loss to
knew the reasons for her teams
downfall in day two of the tour
nament. She doesn’t, but she
does have an idea why her team’s
play was not in top form. “We
were unable to come back Satur
day and show the same intensity
that we showed Friday. Friday’s
play was good, and Saturday’s
was discouraging.”
Niki Beiser once again earned
the praise of her coach for her
play Friday. “Niki had a good
day Friday, Tammy did a good
job setting, and Cheryl did well at
the net.”
