lege has a new addition to it s
music department. Dave Mit­
chell, a trumpet and flugel horn
player from Vancouver, Wash­
ington, is the new instructor for
the instrumental jazz ensemble.
Mitchell went to the University
of Utah because of its outstand­
ing jazz department. There, he
received a Bachelor’s degree in
jazz Performance. He then went
to the University of Arizona, as
they offered him a year as an
assistant teacher as part of his
graduate work, he is now work­
ing on a thesis for his Master’s in
Music Theory.
After college, Mitchell return­
ed to Vancouver and became a
“musician for hire.” He’s been
with the Chris Conrad band for a
little over a year, playing current­
ly every Monday night at The
Hobbit in Portland. Mitchell
also plays with the Mt. Hood
Kicks band, a local “big band”
