JM Record stands at 17-2 Women Cagers falter against Linn-Benton By Rodney Fobert Of The Print The Clackamas Community College women’s basketball team upped their record to 16 wins and one loss by winning a game against the Titans from Lane Community College on Wednesday, Jan. 16. The Cougars clearly dominated the entire game, showing a strong defense and also doing well on offense. At halftime the Cougars had racked up 50 points to the Titans’ 36. The Cougars used the full court press throughout the game, which proved to be very effective. Liz Triano was especially quick to intercept passes from the bewildered Titan offense. Final score of the game was Clackamas 88, Lane 74. On Saturday, Jan. 19 the Cougars ended their winning streak in a tough game' at Linn-Benton Community Col lege. The Cougars had a hard time getting into the game in the first half, and then were unable to make up for it in the second half of the game. Head Coach Phil Garver said, “We have to get mentally prepared but we’re not doing it,” Garver added that the team is not taking advantage of turnovers. On defense the Cougars had the task of keep ing the ball away from Linn- Benton’s tall inside post posi tion. Also, the Cougars’ shooting percentage was way down, making it difficult for them to keep a scoring drive alive. Joanne Ineman kept the Cougars in there fighting, scoring 32 points. Garver sum marized the game by saying the team “was not thinking basketball.” On Monday, Jan. 21 the Cougars went back to their winning ways in a game against Western Oregon Com munity College, beating them 70 to 63. Garver felt the team was still not playing good basketball. “We played well at times and then fell back,” PHIL GARVER (ABOVE) gives the team some words of encouragement during a timeout. Liz Garver said of the game. Joanne Ineman led all scorers with 29 points. Garver added that “Jean Dorherty Jean Dorherty played well inside” by scoring 13 points and grabbing 17 re bounds. Although the Cougars won, Susan Canoy Coach Garver felt the team was not playing well mentally. “We’ve got to start playing 100 percent,” he said.
