The women started off their
season by winning against all of
their opponents until they got
to Mt. Hood Community Col
lege.
Coach Loren Swivel looks at
Mt Hood as being probably the
toughest opponent that the
Cougars will go up against this
season. The games with Mt.
Hood on Oct. 1 went, 17-15,
and 15-6. Since it was still early
in the year, Coach Swivel ex
pects the women to be improv
ed before the team has to meet
Mt. Hood again.
Less than a week before Mt.
Hood, the squad competed in
the Linfield Tournament
against three other colleges,
with the Cbugars being the on
ly community college com
peting. The other colleges, in
cluded, Warner-Pacific, the
University of Portland, and
Concordia. The Cougars took
Warner-Pacific, 15-9, 15-10,
and 15-13, the U. of Portland,
15-5, 17-15, and 15-3, with
Portland taking the second
game. Concordia was downed
in only two games, with scores
of 15-4, and 15-6.
Just two days prior to the
tournment, Clackamas took on
Judson Baptist, at the College..
The winning scores for the
Cougars in this match were
15:6, 15-3, and 15-10.
In the season opener, the
women of Clackamas downed
the Multnomah School of Bj-
ble, 15-2, 15-5, and 15-3.
The 1980 Volleyball team at
the College is a. very young
one, but Coach Swivel com
mented, “It’s going to be a
good season, honestly. We
have much depth.”
Debbie Nolz is the only
sophomore returning for the
Cougars, an All-State,

is joined by a host of
ding freshmen, as indii
their awards of past <
Ronda Westeren an<

Szanto excited about season
New Coach Janos Szanto is
looking forward to Clacamas’
soccer season.
So far the team has won
both of its first two games. As
Coach Szanto put it, “So far
we’ve tackled everyone.”
Coach Szanto doesn’t seem
to have to work too much, by
what he said, “I really don’t
have much to do, we have a
great team on hand. They real
ly work well together. In fact,
we’v scored more in our first
two games, than the team did
all together last year.’’’
This is Coach Szanto’s first
year coaching at the College.
He comes from Hungary,
where he played professionally
for almost eight years. He is so
proficient at the sport, that in
1968 he was chosen for the
Hungarian Soccer team.
Upcoming games will be at
the University of Oregon, on
Oct. 11, and Oregon Institute
of Technology on Oct. 18.
The first home game will be
Oct. 25 against Portland Com
munity College, the defending
champions. Coach Szanto
