Improved
productivity
I'm sure many other senators
also have received) a great deal
of support, assistance and know
ledge from Mike McCarty.
For the past six months I've
been involved in the ASG. My
first assignment was working
with Mitch Newton (ASG Presi
dential Aide) on the Apathy
Committee. At that time, I'm
sorry to say, ASG as a group
was lacking in communication
and not very productive.
However, I received,
cember I'm sure we'll discover a
and organizational skills.
I've found that Mike McCarty
sees his projects, duties as ASG
president
and committments
through with efficiency and a
great amount of ease that en
ables him to communicate and
educate other individuals that
are concerned with the com
munity and school.
These individuals had the en
ergy and ability to contribute a
great deal but were lacking in
fundamental
governmental
knowledge and communication
skills.
There have been innumerable
instances where Mike has taken
time to explain why certain
things are the way they are.
Just
yesterday afternoon,
Mike and I were in the cafeteria
having coffee and I made a
comment about the high prices
of the food. Mike immediately
intervened with a five minute ex
planation of why the prices are
high, and how the administration
and the cafeteria have their
hands tied.

Well, if you wanted to work

Coors is repeatedly cited for
discrimination in its hiring prac

Possibility of American holocaust discussed
Editor's note: This editorial
is a reprint of one appearing in
the April 26 issue of the Courier
4, Chemeketa Community Col
lege's student newspaper.
Last week's film on NBC-TV,
"Holocaust," brings back memo
ries of the world's largest mas
sacre, the attempted annihala-
tion of the Jewish people.
After viewing the four-part
series, it makes one wonder if
such an atrocious thing could oc
cur in this country and what the
affect would be upon a people
who have learned to live the
soft and easy life.
Concern has dominated the
minds of many in thè past few
years as America and the world
has seen a pronounced increase
in Nazi activity.
By closing our minds to this
possibility, we also close our
minds to the legal and political
aspects of our government which
could eventually destroy the very
freedom thousands of our people
have died to protect.
In recai ling some of the events
which led up to the holocaust
of World War 11, we might take a
closer look at Adolph Hitler's
stand on gun control, for ex
ample.
One of the prime topics in
politics today is gun control in
America, a direct parallel to
laws established in Nazi Germany
prior to World War II.
Could our lackadaisical atti
tude towards voting when elec
tion time arrives influence our
future for us?
How much power does the
Federal Court have in passing
laws without the sanction of the
majority of our population?
Will a future president have
the money and the ability to de
velop a dictatorship in this
country for the good of an apa-
Page 6
thetic society?
How will the numerous mili
tant groups in this country re
act to such an event?
We have the My Lai massacre
’ to think about, and a wealthy
Mr. Calley sitting in Florida liv
ing a life of ease, whereas Nazi
officers guilty of the same crime
were hanged after World War II.
Where are we as a nation of
people with changing values and
morals going?
In an era where aetheism,
the occult, keeping up with the
Joneses, commercialism, lack of
a national pride, sky-rocketing
divorce rates, loss of the family,
punk rock and other such value
less ideals are supported, it
doesn't seem that an American
holocaust would have much dif-
ficulty in becoming a reality.
