Botany Lab class each spring is usually not found within the
confines of the lab, but out in the field learning of the research
on the native plants of Oregon. During the Thursday lab time,
instructor, Florence Lee takes her class to nearby sites to ob
serve the flora. On the last trip, April 13, the class visited the
North Willamette Experiment Station (with Oregon State Univer
sity) located on 158 acres outside Aurora.
Upper left: Florence Lee's botany class listened to Dr. Ticknor
describe the different horticultural experiments going on at the
station. Upper right: Every spring botany students are required
to keep a field notebook which consists of information gathered
during field trips and plant collecting excursions. Left: Larus
Arellano and Bob Hoffman examine a Pacific Dogwood hybred
which has improved color, shape, and the ability to grow in a
greater range of climates. Above: Joe Curli carries one of the
plants which Dr. Ticknor had rejected for experimentation.
Since this plant did not meet his needs he gave it to the class to
add to the botany native plant arboretum.
